It’s in Tel Aviv right now, where every other country in the world has their embassy.
Don't be obtuse. You know why this IS and what has changed.
quote:
What’s the benefit to moving it?
To reflect the changing reality of the Israeli government.

It is still a pretty ballsy move. We're basically recognizing Israel's claim to a united Jerusalem while most of the world feels that half the city belongs to the Palestinians.

And? It's preferable to sending missle technology to China because Clinton loved Loral Space's money. Moving the embassy is far more reasonable, money or not.
And what? He wanted to know the reasoning behind the move, now he has it. I appreciate the low effort whataboutism though.

I was told Trump is an America first guy. I understand the Israelis want this to happen, but how does this help America?
I’ll hang up and listen.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 is a public law of the United States passed by the 104th Congress on October 23, 1995. It was passed for the purposes of initiating and funding the relocation of the Embassy of the United States in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, no later than May 31, 1999, and attempted to withhold 50 percent of the funds appropriated to the State Department specifically for "Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad" as allocated in fiscal year 1999 until the United States Embassy in Jerusalem had officially opened. The act also called for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city and for it to be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel. Israel's declared capital is Jerusalem, but this is not internationally recognized, pending final status talks in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The United States has withheld recognition of the city as Israel's capital. The proposed law was adopted by the Senate (93–5), and the House (374–37).
Since passage, the law has never been implemented, because of opposition from Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama, who view it as a Congressional infringement on the executive branch's constitutional authority over foreign policy; they have consistently claimed the presidential waiver on national security interests.

God forbid we ruin the wonderful relationship we have with the Islamic world. We were THIS close to peace.
Damn you, Trump!

God has called on Trump to move the embassy to Jerusalem, Trump is the tool that implements Gods will.

If Jerusalem is more likely to be attacked by muslims (than Tel Aviv), then having our embassy there means an attack on IT is the same thing as an attack on US mainland.
So, we get to be involved in any offensive Israel responds with.
That's my two cents. I think they're pissed about how much more leverage it gives us in that regard.
Israel either IS or is NOT recognized by the rest of the world as the capital. If it is, we have every right to put it where we want.

If there is a war that annihilates the Palestinians then do be it. Israel will only be doing what God commanded them to do over 3,000 years ago.

Who cares
I would assume people claiming they are America First and deeply concerned with Iran’s growth of regional influence, with battling extremist groups in the Middle East, and protecting our troops and public servents overseas, instead of their donor’s money. Groups that will see recruitment swell and mobilization grow while tenuous alliances risk fracturing and harming American foreign policy. As America would be taking the unprecedented act of moving their capital to a highly contentious part of the region. Something no other country has done, for good reason, and administration’s of both parties have recognized the negative sum implication for why it shouldn’t be done.
For someone that is more concerned about Adelson’s money though, yeah, move the embassy. Why not.

Those are the negatives. I’m trying to understand the positives. It is just that we want Bibi to like us and appease the evangelicals here at home?
Israel has never wanted peace with the Palestinians. They want to provoke them into another war which will without doubt include Hezbollah and the destruction of Lebanon. We are doing Israel's bidding and giving them money at the same time. Iraq-Done, Syria-Done, Lebanon-Next. Jewtopia is simply growing like a foreign weed in a non-indigenous environment. There is a reason Jews have been persecuted over the centuries - they need to look in the mirror.

Maybe something tangible?
A 1995 law never carried out by any president since then even though all presidents in their campaigns promised to do so. Only one lived up to the law and kept his promise.

It’s the capital of the Holy Land. Israel is an ally of America and is a rampart against Islamic terrorism. /thread
Also being America first doesn’t mean we can’t help our allies.
