I was told Trump is an America first guy. I understand the Israelis want this to happen, but how does this help America?

I’ll hang up and listen.

It doesn't. It just appeases the base. And I'm no leftist

It strengthens our ties with Israel.

How does it hurt America? It's America's embassy. We can do with it what we want.

Jerusalem is the capital city of the country of Israel. The better question is why it wasn’t there all along.

Well it will most likely cause the Palestinians to walk away from the nascent peace deal (rough week for Kush, jeez). Also a real possibility of violent protests.

Those are the negatives. I’m trying to understand the positives. It is just that we want Bibi to like us and appease the evangelicals here at home?

It’s my understanding that WJC and GWB both said they’d do this while campaigning but didn’t follow through. Also, I saw today but didn’t verify that the Senate voted this past June 90-0 (10 didn’t vote including Booker) to move the embassy to Jerusalem. As far as America first, how does officially recognizing the 3000 year old capital hurt America?

ETA: corrected “cited” to voted. Thanks iPhone

It’s in Tel Aviv right now, where every other country in the world has their embassy.

What’s the benefit to moving it?

Here is Benny's take on it , obviously he's on one side of this fence.

The rest of the world sucks. We should go out of our way to avoid them

I laughed out loud at this sentence

Since when did America become a follower and not the leader of the free world?

I’m just trying to understand the impetus for the change and the tangible benefits it will bring to America.

Anyone?

By doing this, America is effectively saying that Palestine has no right to have their country. I hope all the neocohens in this thread are going to be signing up for the inevitable war.

Again, it's our embassy.

Israel is our only ally in the region. I have never understood all the anti-israel mentalities.

Everybody on this board blindly shills for Israel, you aren't going to get a better answer.
