I just called these bitches. It's only if you want to cancel. I said well I want to cancel. He says well you will have an early termination fee. My contract is up in February. frick DIRECTV

My contract is up next April, and I still go the $50/month credit for a year with no problem. If I were you, I'd call again because you will probably get a different person. Although I said "cancel" to the automated system in order to get to the loyalty department, I never one told them I was considering cancelling. I just asked if there were any discounts that could lower my bill.

I decided to give it another shot since I struck out last time. I got the $50.00 off for 12 months and the red zone channel for free.

Oh and I forgot. When I hung up I was on the phone for a total of 8 minutes.

Persistence pays off! Quick question, your bio says you are a professor. I won't ask where, but are you really a professor and if so, what's your PhD in?

We pay for my in-laws' DirecTV account, and we recently got the discount. The bill for their cable/internet is now considerably lower than what I pay for internet and DirecTV Now (~$68 vs. $85).

If you are paying for your in laws cancel their service and add an extra receiver to your account. Carry receiver to inlaws house. Now you are only paying like 5 or 10 bucks for the extra receiver. DIRECTV thinks the extra receiver is in your bedroom. Life hack.

This thread should be nominated for thread of the year. The OP is directly responsible for saving the OT brethren thousands of dollars.

ETA: by my calculations, this thread has saved 44 OT'ers a total of $27,508. Awesome job OP!

That's nice. Just wanted you guys to get in on an easy money saving deal. My motivation was only that. Glad I could help some folks.

Awesome thread.

I called tonight and got $20 off per month for 12 months bringing my monthly bill to $56/ month for the Xtra package with 4 boxes.

Should I try to call back and get more off or more channels?

I did it earlier and only got $20 off per month. She told me that my bill was the lowest she’s ever seen and just as much as hers. I still have one quiver left in my bow to try to make it lower and get more channels. I’m waiting a few months though.

Thanks High C. Saved $50 per month for the next year and an additional $7 off HBO and $6 off Starz for the next 6 months. Took a whopping 6 minutes and Cassandra was as nice as could be.

So this only works if you aren't in a contract?

I'm still in my contract but would love to get a discount.
