I dont think it matters whether you are in a contract or not.. It was pretty much no questions asked when i did it.

Thank you OP for the heads up, I just called the direct number you listed and got $50 off per month with no problem. With my medical bills for cancer treatment that's gonna help a lot.

Thanks for the thread.

I just called Dtv, I was apparently getting a $41 discount already for another year (two years originally) and paying $80/month. Starting with my next bill I will get an additional $50/month discount and will only pay $30/month for the next 12. Unreal.

ps - that phone # 800-778-3397 is direct to customer loyalty dept. They answered after one ring and the rep helping me was who answered, no transferring or pressing this or that. Took 1-2 minutes total.

Is that just for directtv or does that include internet?

I may call back depending on your answer.

Called the direct loyalty line posted earlier and got $50 off per month. Bill is only $40 a month now for tv and internet! OT coming through in the clutch!

No. Has nothing to do with contract, at least they didn't say anything about an extension.

No, not at all. In fact, my contract is up in 6 months and I was told to call back again and negotiate an even better deal. Or he said there just may be more discounts available then. No extension required.

No luck for me. All they could offer me was free HBO or sports packages. Don't trust them to cancel in a year. Said deals change daily and to check back.

First off, props to the OP for posting this. However, it didn't work for me. I was never offered 50% off of my bill for 12 months. My current bill isn't all that bad- about $89 a month, so I don't know if they couldn't go lower or not, but they simply discussed with me options of removing programming to lower my bill.

Edited to add: I get it. I'm an Aggie and didn't do it right. Sigh.

Ah. I was out of my contract a few weeks ago and decided to cancel. Went with Vue.

They offered the $50 first, I asked for how long and it was for 12 months.

Asked about how it affected me not being under contract and it would have extended me 24 months.

They didn't volunteer that info, but it was in the email they sent too.

Those that didn’t get it, did you call the direct line to customer loyalty posted? I got denied twice calling the regular number and speaking to folks with thick accents. First time trying the loyalty line, rang once and answered and guy was extremely friendly and helpful

I called the customer loyalty line and it rang once and I spoke with a live American agent. She wasn't really rude or friendly, but just kind of dissected my bill and we lowered it $13 by eliminating the Starz pack.

I was paying $79 and now will be $29. The $79 was discounted by $41 already and now an additional $50 off for a year. So $29 for a supposed $120 package.
