Ew. Steele as HC was a pretty huge disaster at Baylor.

He was the worst coach ever at Baylor and that's saying something.

Steele once cost us a game because he called a run play, we fumbled and UNLV picked it up and scored. We could of took a knee and won the game.

Schiano would do a better job than Steele, easily.

It wasn't a televised game. It was just long enough ago that it was still a rarity for every school's game to be on TV. Baylor and UNLV might have video that they shot themselves but as far as I know it's never been released

*edit* I see from the link above that UNLV made a highlight video that has found its way to YouTube.

Reposting from another thread. (Errors in the quote are original to the piece):

LAST SECOND FUMBLE RETURN ROBS STEELE OF FIRST VICTORY

quote:

UNLV's Kevin Thomas returned a fumble 99-yard to score a touchdown with no time remaining as the Rebles upset Baylor 27-24 at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco Saturday night.

The Bears led 24-21 with four seconds left on the clock when Darrell Bush was stripped on the goal line at the UNLV one yard line while trying to push his way to the endzone. But just when victory seemed assured, Rebel defensive back Thomas picked up the ball and returned it 99 yards for the touchdown as time expired.

"We were trying to create an atmospshere where we line up and get after people," coach Kevin Steele said of his decision not to have his quarterback take a knee on the game's final play.

At this point I'd just swing for the fences and go after Chad Morris or another exciting young coach to infuse some excitement into the program

Hasn't Steele had "issues" with the stress of coaching in the past? In spite of what is going to be a reduced pool of interested candidates because of Schiano there has to be a better option than Kevin Steele.

Bill Beal might have an argument.

I would be very concerned if I were a UT fan, but, if you want to look for a silver lining, Gene Stallings was a failure his first time as a college head coach but his second shot turned out a lot better.

I love Coach Steele and what he has done for our defense, but as a head coach? I think it would be a bad choice.

Before all y'all stroke Steele off too hard about Auburn's defense, let us please remember that AU ain't exactly devoid of a shat load of talent on defense. Having the best D-Line in the nation helps a good bit as well. When Chavis was at Tennessee he had exceptional talent in his defense as well. Steele might end up killing it at Tennessee but I seriously doubt it.
