Mullen would be a great hire.

Literally everything has been added since he got here. Not many programs currently have nicer facilities than we do. The school has really went all in in that aspect.
I'm sure you do but Tennessee right now has state of the art, top 5 facilities in the country. They finished all of this just like a year ago.
Neyland Stadium was just approved for a $350M complete renovation starting in 2018.

If Mullen does make the worst decision of his life to move up there with all those hillbillies in Coxville it's not the end of the world for us. He will leave the cabinet full and with the black bear rebel sharks about to get hammered the job at state will attract some coaches that might not have shown interest in the past. Mullen has left the job with a lot of attraction.

I don't even know where to start there.

Basically every program in the SEC has top notch football facilities
Every rational football fan recognizes Tennessee is a bigger job than State.

This is a little surprising. Dan has it pretty good at MSU right now. Making 4.5 million a year and no championship expectations from the fan base.
He can win 8 or 9 games a year and the fans will be happy. That ain't happening at Tennessee

I'll never understand this mindset Nick Saban could've stayed at MSU and won 8 games every year and they would've been happy, but the goal shouldn't be to win 8 games or win just enough to keep a job. These dudes are competitive as hell, and I'm sure he believes he's one of the best coaches in CFB but is handcuffed by States limitations as a program.

Mullen has taken MSU pretty much to it's ceiling. UT offers a better opportunity for Mullen to build it to a point of winning some championships.
It's really just a matter of whether that's what Mullen truly wants to achieve and a matter of reaching agreeable terms with UT.
The combination of fit and risks vs upside are very good for both sides.
At Dan's age, and all things considered, I think the odds of Mullen going to UT are pretty dang good.

Exactly.

Honestly, there are a lot of reasons for him to stay and very few for him to leave.
I would understand if Mullen left State for any of the major openings this year, but the expectations at those schools are much higher than they are at State. Realistically, State is going to be happy with a bowl game once a year and beating Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl more often than not.
Mullen will have to have Tennessee in national title contention every year or else he is Butch Jones.

Only the ignorant would get in a facilities pissing contest with TN.
You guys practically invented this facilities arms race that every P5 school is participating in.
Everyone has the "best" until the next school finishes their project and on and on and on we go.

That's nice and all but when he takes a job at a program with unrealistic expectations and he doesn't meet them he'll be out of a job in a couple years ala Jimmy Mac at Florida.
When you have a good thing going it's not always wise to go looking for something better.

Mayden noted that Dan Mullen has told him that his name comes up in coaching rumors every year and this year is no different. Mayden added that Mullen told him he wasn't going anywhere and to not worry about the rumors.
Just to contrast the volquest guys comments about recruits, this is from this morning. Mullen telling his future QB's that he isn't going anywhere.
Obviously I'm aware that doesn't necessarily mean a lot. But FWIW.

It's not the end of the world for us because we are not the degenerate fan base that you freaks are. You have bitches jumping from the upper deck because someone forgot to give her tobacco back, you kill trees, you pay players, you live die with every action your coach makes, you name your kids "Bama" and "Crimsom" which you know they will be swinging from poles somewhere down the line. I'm sure I have forgotten some so enjoy your hot dogs and cheetohs for thanksgiving Bamer

Not to mention that Dan would probably be getting $25-30 million to try to see if he could get past that 8-9 win mark. Let's not make it out like he's putting his neck out on the line too much, fellas.

I would argue that he is constantly raising our ceiling. Comes down to whether he wants to continue to build a program or take a chance and go to somewhere that is already more established.
His recruiting constantly gets better, I absolutely he can continue to improve and build a better program at State over the next decade just as he has the last decade. Whether he wants to do that or not, I won't pretend to know.
