State isn't in a bad spot if Mullen leaves. The deck is stacked for the next 5 years and you have some promising prospects for your next coach.

Yeah, if Mullen leaves, State will be a very attractive opportunity.

I think FL is going to frick themselves again if they do not go after Mullen.

IT is crazy to me they do not want him. All I hear about is how the offense at Fl blows. Mullen would fix that in one year. Guy has an eye for finding and developing qb talent.

He could go 9-3 next year and that’s why he should stay ? That’s the reason to leave . Even with everything at State set up perfect for him he likely goes 9-3. He could average 9-3 at Tennessee, or maybe even A&M.

Only thing I would throw out there in him staying at msu, barring it being a money thing which I dont think it should be, is that bama reaches out saying "we are watching you for whenever saban" leaves. That could be worth sticking around at msu to ride his team next few years.

Not saying this happens but remember that it was Greg Byrne, not Scott Stricklin, who actually hired Mullen.

Yep. After a couple years at UT, 9-3 should be his floor. At MSU, it's pretty much his ceiling.

Of course he will. And then tMSU will give him another raise. And Tennessee will get another turn down.

Huh. Very interesting. I had no clue when I threw that out there. it's a gamble cause saban is an old ox, but i'm sure "when" has been discussed behind very closed doors. If not then bama is doing itself a disservice, because seamlessly carrying on what saban has done is going to be super difficult.

One thing is doing a controlled burn style retirement transition, but the emergency replacement plan is the one that better be sitting on the ADs locked desk drawer.

It’s crossed my mind that Byrne would go that route one day. His only hire so far at Alabama was baseball. He stayed with what he’s familiar with, a guy (Brad Bohannon) he has previous ties with at Kentucky.

Wonder if the game tonight is his first interview for UT?
