NEW ORLEANS - A judge says New Orleans must refund as much as $28 million in fines collected from tickets based on traffic cameras.

Ad hoc Judge Robert Burns ruled recently that nearly the first three years of such tickets were invalid.

Plaintiffs' attorney Joseph McMahon tells The Advocate and Nola.com | The Times-Picayune that the judge ruled the tickets were invalid because the city had the Department of Public Works handle enforcement.

He said Friday that there may be as many as 250,000 tickets involved.

In Nola they'll boot your car. In BR they can't do a damn thing

only ones I paid was for a boot on my car. Think it was about $500 in fines that I paid off for about $80.

The company handling them are shrewd negotiators.

So the city is found to be violating their own laws and it’s the trial lawyers fault? Can’t make this stupid shite up.

Depends on the city.

Got sent one from BR for $100 and I didn’t pay it.

They resent it with fees and threats for $125.

They sent it again with more fees and threats for $150.

Months passed...it got sent again from a lawyers office with more threats...but only asking for $10

Guess they finally ask for what they think they can get...I paid it.

I've just always threw them in the trash when I receive them. If my car gets booted in New Orleans, they'll find their boot cut in half where my car was.

what do you carry in your car to cut the boot?

highly inefficient way to take them apart.

And now TPOS Compton Cantrell is going to get her greedy hands on more public money.

I? can’t believe the people of this City are going to elect this piece of shite as Mayor.

This city is so fricked.

My only hope is that she gets indicted and goes to jail. Then Williams or Bloom will become mayor.

The new ones are good, for a while thru had some that didn't even cover the lugs.

I'll say, the welds on the lock box are spot welds. With a hammer and cold chisel you could have the lock box off, then you just need a 3/4" wrench or channel locks and your good.

If you have a sawzall, you could cut the box off quicker. Avoid the lock, it's hardened and needs an angle grinder to cut.

If you have a truck with hubcaps, just break your hubcap, then deflate the tire, then jack it up, you should have plenty of room to reach the studs. Put your spare on and roll.
Next day get a new license plate, report old plate stolen.

just get the right inverted torx/hex. It's two bolts if I remember correctly.

Just remember it adds a huge number to your tab and the next time they find you they call a tow truck immediately.
