USATODAY: Texas A&M prepared to pursue Jimbo Fisher

Texas A&M is expected to inquire about the interest level of Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher once its separation from current coach Kevin Sumlin is official at the end of the season, according to two people familiar with the situation.
Those people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because Texas A&M has not made an announcement on Sumlin’s future and due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Though Fisher has never given serious consideration to leaving Florida State previously, rebuffing interest from LSU the last two years, one person close to Fisher pointed to his longstanding relationship with Texas A&M athletics director Scott Woodward and the current disappointing season at Florida State as reasons why Texas A&M’s pursuit might be more realistic.
Woodward arrived as an administrator at LSU in 2000, the same year Fisher was hired there as offensive coordinator under Nick Saban. They have remained in touch and friendly over the years, according to a person familiar with Fisher’s thinking.
Pursuing Fisher would make sense for Texas A&M, which has shown a willingness to spend big money to reach the elite level of college football. Beyond Fisher, who won a national title in 2013, there are few, if any, candidates for the job who would be a guaranteed upgrade over Sumlin.

IF aTm gets Jimbo and UF gets Chip Kelly the year after LSU hires O...i may camp out at the LSU AD building to throw rocks at Alleva's car.

Fsu may not fight as hard to keep him this time. But as we found out it's extremely hard to lure a successful coach away.

Of course A&M will inquire about Jimbo's interest.
That would be poor leadership to not even consider it. But A&M has other targets on the radar as well.

Alleva bout to get his arse handed to him on the proper way to hire a coach.

Whoa! What a shock! Jimbo Fisher and his agent wouldn't use the (presumed) A&M opening as leverage for demands at FSU! There's no history of him doing that....wait?
Jimmy Sexton isn't a moron. He knows A&M has money and is desperate to be a serious competitor in the SEC. Why not exploit that situation to see what he can do for his client.
LSU was willing to pay Fisher a significant amount...twice (though not as much as Saban or Harbaugh). Every time there seemed to be some movement on an agreement the numbers/demands "magically" increased to the point where it became unreasonable. The bottom line was that Fisher NEVER wanted to be the LSU coach. If he did, he would be here.
Now that LSU is not in the market, A&M becomes the biggest fish with a "legitimate connection" to scare FSU...Scott Woodward (former member of LSU's AD when Fisher was here). In order to make an effective threat/bluff there has to be some "worry" created by it. LSU had legs because Fisher coached there for 5+ years. That connection was enough to concern FSU. Now, A&M's AD has a "longstanding relationship" with Fisher to worry FSU.
A&M is not a step up from FSU in terms of ability to compete for national titles. Hell, if nothing else, FSU doesn't have to play Alabama each year just for the CHANCE to make it to the playoffs. A&M doesn't offer Fisher any additional advantage he doesn't already have at FSU. The only thing A&M can offer is more money.
If A&M is willing to pay Jimbo Fisher at or close to what Harbaugh is making ($9 million per) then he may consider A&M. Otherwise, this is nothing more than another power play by Jimmy Sexton, only with A&M being the pawn this time.
Woodward should be careful as to how serious he takes this "interest". Because if word leaks out he was willing to pay Jimbo $6-$7 million dollars, then the floor on the REAL candidates becomes even higher.

Let em get Fisher. I'd love to continue kicking their arse year in and year out.

Be careful what you wish for Aggies, your AD hired Ty Willingham for Washington and set that program back a decade.

I don’t see Jimbo leaving. It’s been a rough year for him at FSU but a little coordinator turnover will go a long way in curing those ills.

I think Ole Jimbo has been exposed this year. Losing your starting QB would certainly torpedo championship desires... but it should not result in being 3-6.
So of course Aggy would want him!!!
