I don't think people disliked Simmons thinking he was the problem.
Everyone with a pulse knew JJ was the issue
I think people dislike him because of his attitude and demeanor, it was pretty apparent it was all about him. I honestly don't think he cared very much for LSU much at all. he hardly recognizes the school at all. Ben was looking to just come in for one year then cash into the NBA, nothing more. he wasn't lookin to learn in school or look to change the culture of LSU basketball, LSU was a just a step for him to hit the NBA

It's probably at an all time high in terms of overall talent. It's fun as frick to watch.
This is probably from the perspective of someone too young and stupid to ever see any of the games during the 80’s or 90’s. Go freaking reasearch the 79-85 drafts. Look at the number of greatest players from that era. LeBron is probably just eclipsing Bird as the best 3. Barely. Still at he end of the game give me Bird.

i'm sure he did learn something about being a person while at LSU. If not, he wasted his own time. No one should go a full year at 18 years old and not learn anything.
He easily could have just said he was grateful for his time at LSU but it would have been better spent in the pros. He did have teammates, staff etc that he worked with everyday. I mean damn.
Yeah, it was a cold thing to say.
How do you not learn anything about yourself as a freshman in college? He didn’t meet anyone that affected his life or he’s still friends with? At the very least he could have mentioned the fact that he learned a lot about losing. It’s really sad how selfish he appears.

Winning is the only reason people don't like him. Because LSU fan revere shitheads like TM7 & Ryan Perrlioux. Fans were inventing ways to try and keep these dudes on the team despite being criminals. Even at the time people took up for Jordan Jefferson when he was punting guys in the head.
But hey, they won, and they get a pass. Simmons was let down by a terrible coach but he wasnt the reason the team was bad. He just didnt give you any lasting memories as a team besides his All american play

That’s not true at all.
Win or lose, you’ve got to represent LSU positively, at least in words.
Despite TMs troubles, he never hated on LSU or miles and then redeemed himself. Still values his time at LSU and has donated a lot of money.

Ben is going to play a MAJOR ROLE (just like shaq does) in getting great players to continue to come here. Recruits will know Ben went to LSU, and that is priceless for recruiting. How people don't get this just amazes me!!!
It sounds like he has nothing good to say about LSU, so why is this a good thing?

Wish him all the best. Dude is not a tiger

If he got LSU to the final 4 you'd love the dude regardless of his neutrality towards LSU

I really do laugh at these threads and how everyone can decide if a player actually is a part of LSU or not.
Is Tyrann Mathieu #LSU? If Tyrann is #LSU then so is Rashard Robinson, right?
ETA: Tyrus Thomas, not #LSU?

quote:Why should he sugarcoat his experience? That season was a disaster and just because he doesn't pretend his time at LSU was a tremendous "learning experience" doesn't mean he deserves this much hate. Everyone knew the situation when he signed here but for some reason "fans" shite on him constantly because he wasn't Shaq.

You just realized he didn’t give a shite about LSU?
Seemed clear by mid January of his college career to me. That, or he was overrated.
