Bama gets left out of the BCS title game and we beat whoever for the championship. Everything else being equal, is CLM still our coach today?

Les Miles leaving LSU was best for everyone. Alabama is not just better than we are, they are better than everyone else most of the time.

I think he would be gone under the same parameters that caused his demise at LSU as Head Coach. However he would have left with less animosity from fans, including this one

I don’t think much changes. The 2012 class was not a good class and that game had little effect on that. Miles was being out recruited and if his offense didn’t change after that disaster it sure wasn’t going to change if it didn’t happen.

Erasing 1/9/12 doesn't change who Les is. Les caused 1/9/12, and if it didn't happen on 1/9/12 it would have happened later.

If 1/9/12 didn't happen, Les would still be our coach today, but he would be on the hot seat and we'd be clamoring for him to go.

Winning it all in 2011 possibly prevents Bama from becoming the empire they are now. It cannot be stated enough how big that game was to finish the hardest schedule in the history of college football.

LSU plays Oklahoma State in the National Championship and caps off one of the greatest seasons in college football history.

Yes. Even if LSU lost to Okie State, CLM is probably the head coach.

The NC loss stunted the LSU program. I feel that a brand new coaching staff is going to need to come in to truly change the culture of LSU being the scrappy little brother.

I think Les' quirkiness also turned fans against him as soon as he was not on top of the world...he just reached the end of his shelf life at LSU and the fans got bored with him. I think he would now be gone regardless of the outcome of that game.

Yes.

LSU, like all fanbases, has many ignorant fans who can't or won't try to understand complexities.

Many still believe that Les caused the 1-9-12 loss by not playing Lee. It's fricking hysterical. It's fricking pathetic.

Hell, many still think that LSU didn't cross the 50 yard line.

Even if 1/9 happens, if Mathieu doesn't get booted before the season, we still might win 2012. Between the two, it killed the spirit

What team or teams choked down the stretch to let Bama back into the championship game? Okie State? Anybody else?

What if we hired Bobby Bowden in 1980 or Steve Spurrier in 1986.

Probably so. I'd like thank the talking experts of ESPN who helped push Bama in, despite those guys losing to LSU earlier in the year. Unreal.

What amazes me more is the post-1/9/12 scene and how Miles adamantly resisted making some fundamental changes.

You want a hypothetical?

What if the Miami Dolphins team doctors didn’t fail Drew Brees on his post shoulder injury physical and he had signed with the Dolphins instead of the Saints?

How different would the NFL and college football be?

How many SEC and possibly national championships would LSU have? What about Bama? Would the Dolphins and Nick Saban win a Super Bowl, surely the Saints would not have.

Hell, if not for that one single decision, Nick may have been a successful NFL coach and, holy shite, Les Miles might be one of the greatest college coaches ever.

That one decision by the Miami Dolphins probabky hurt LSU more than anything else in the last 20 or more years.

Yes. Les Miles would have 2 NC . Eventually...his tired offense would be his downfall. Perhaps..2019 instead of 2016.
