Tell me, genius, all the point guards better than Jrue that were available and willing to go to the Pels for that price.
Is jrue a point guard? Didn't we sign an actual point guard in that range? I don't understand your argument, or hostility.
It is a fact we would have had more cash without signing jrue, not just this year but beyond. I think the argument is if we could fill other needs without his contract.

You realize how bad Jrue has been, right? If you are talking just about how he has played this year, or even since the Boogie trade, it would be very easy to get a guard for the money the Pels had to offer and have the team not be worse for it. Very easy. You could have:
- Traded for A Bradley, R. Jackson, J Clarkson, C Joseph, Rubio, or Bledsoe
- Signed D Collison, Tyreke, George Hill, or Teague
All have been much better. Heck, you could have just brought in Rondo and Nelson, then go and sign a guy like CJ Miles or Jonathan Simmons.
Bottom line - Jrue has been terrible. The way he is playing right now, he can be replaced by minimum guys like Clark and Nelson, with no notable difference. Now, if your argument is that its some aberration and he is going to learn how to dribble again, or make 3's at a better than JV High School player rate, then that is one thing. But if THIS is the Jrue the team gets moving forward, you could have signed minimum guys to have a similar impact.

How can he not revert to the mean? Have you ever seen a player fall off a cliff like this without age or injury being a factor?

Aldridge maybe? Kind of a different scenario though since Jrue gets the touches to dictate his play.
Jrue is the biggest loser so far in the DMC era. I have to wonder if the amount of effort that has to go into Cousins is taking away from Jrue’s ability to figure into this equation.
I think he’ll figure it out eventually. I wish he’d just settle down and focus on getting his more, but that’s not the brand of basketball the coaches are asking our guys to play.
The eye test says that the drop off in play from Jrue to Nelson and Clark is there even with Jrue playing like crap. Anyone who’s been a part of AD/DC being successful when both are on the court at the same time should at least get a little credit imo.

At that point, does that matter?
I don't think that would give us $7mil extra to work with.
In isolation, it doesn't. But 2 overpay contracts and 2 dead contracts add up to about 25m of useless money. (15m from 2 big, 5m from holiday, 5m from hill)

In hindsight the play to make would have been something like Rondo + Swaggy/CJ Miles + Justin Holiday instead of Jrue, then use an in season trade to upgrade SG or PG. But that would have been a hard sell to make both to players, ownership and the fans. So the answer to this question is to do what Boston did with IT and avoid the situation by cashing in a player that isn't a cornerstone before he can get leverage on you.

At this point, I'd be game for a Lakers trade: Jrue for Luol Deng's corpse + Jordan Clarkson. Let Jrue play 2ndary ballhandler to Lonzo, slide KCP to the 3 and they can have wing firepower. Then Pels at least have an average PG who's still hungry and a 6 years too late wing combo of Deng/Allen to junk up small ball in those lax January tilts.

Ingram plays the 3. I see zero motivation for the Lakers to do that deal.

quote:Yes, and there's zero chance he'll finish the season with those numbers, they will go up, guaranteed.
You realize how bad Jrue has been, right?
Also, how would we get Teague or Hill? We didn't have room in the cap, we were under $10mil available I believe if we let Jrue go and operated under the cap.
quote:So his entire career is the aberration but not the last 10 games... Good talks!!!

Those 10 game sample sizes, we're putting all our eggs in THAT basket?

You are incorrect with how much cap space they could have had. Do you want to learn or just stick with your (incorrect) POV and yell at everyone. Because if you want to learn, you can ask and I can educate you on how much cap space they could have had. I am nice when people just ask.
As for "10 game aberration"
Actually.......I am talking about the last 35 games. Since Boogie got here. Want some stats? Ok, I will oblige
13.6 ppg, , 42% from the field, 28% on three's on 4.5 attempts per game, less than 1.5 FTA's per game despite this team always being in the penalty. A TS% of 50% which is god awful. Like, amongst the worst guards in the league awful in that span.
He has been TERRIBLE. Not bad. Not below average. Terrible. And its not a 10 game thing. But you can tell yourself whatever you want. I want him to turn it around too. But I won't lie to myself or yell at people who try to educate me with facts because its what I want.

To add to this, I went back and searched all guards who have 800 or more minutes played since AS break last year (basically, starters and 6th/7th men) and Jrue has the WORST TS% of all of them.
Let that sink in. Literally the worst, least efficient scorer from the guard position in the entire league.
Terrible.

which is why it was so stunning they gave him that money to play this role.
i get why they felt like they had to pay to keep him, but the amount of shrugging at paying him max level $$ to switch positions has shocked me.

I wouldn't have done it. Was on the record from day 1 of the offseason. I just don't think the team would have been much worse without him. Heck, could be better. And either way, you have so much more flexibility moving forward.
Dell had a bunch of non-ideal choices (his own fault, BTW) - but he had choices. Anybody saying otherwise is simply misinformed.

How can this staff put the ball in his hands to finish games so often with this type of information staring them in the face?
Posted on 11/5/17 at 8:50 pm to ShamelessPel
If I was being kind, I would say they think (like many fans) that it is a slump that he will soon break out of and that they need to give him chances to get his confidence back. I mean, this staff and FO MUST get Holiday back on track. Their jobs depend on it.

To me, and I am not a coach, but it would seem that taking the ball out of his hands in clutch situations and maybe running more set plays for him in general, ones that get him some easy points, to reduce the room for error and help build that confidence, would be the obvious coaching move. Putting the ball into his hands in high stress clutch moments and hoping he makes the right moves, or runs the play out of the timeout to perfection, seems counter-intuitive. Maybe starting Nelson with Jrue to get him going and then staggering.
IDK.
