I'd be fine with 8 but no more.

This is too much unless you shorten the regular season and no thanks to that.

At most, do a 6 team playoff that is similar to the NFL playoffs, and give the top 2 a bye, but then you get people crying about that too.

Does Jim Harbaugh want to become the Steve Kerr/Greg Popovich of college football with these takes? I mean holy crap what a diversion tactic from how his team isn't resembling the dominance of last year's squad and is no longer relevant in the playoff chase.

Look, I'm not a 16 team guy, but it is kind of weird/ridiculous that the best college sport farms out its post-season when the NCAA runs every other sport.

Not really. Once you've lost 1-2 games the rest really don't matter except for some mediocre bowl. In fact, the large majority of college teams' recent and upcoming games don't matter, they're out of it.

That's ridiculous. There is not a single 1 loss team that is "out of it", and plenty of 2 loss teams have a shot at their conference title You are jumping the gun with this argument.

Jim would like that because he could lose to every good team on his schedule and get in the playoffs every year with a 9-3 record. It’s a stupid idea because how will they determine the teams? Over the last 10 years 7-5 SEC teams have been beating up on 8-4 or 9-3 teams from other conferences. That’s the reason they are pushing this idea. Not all 3 loss teams are created equal.

I don't understand the comparison with Kerr and Popovich especially since you argued a diversion from the team's performance when they would just certainly not be applicable to Kerr and Popovich.

I know it's a very unpopular opinion. But I actually agree with Harbough here.

I have always preferred the FCS playoff route. I've never really been a fan of the bowl games. They're pointless for the most part. But they make too much money, so they are not going anywhere.

Regardless, CFP needs to expand more than 4 teams. It would be better

The part that kills me is you could have the higher seed get 1-2 extra home playoff games at the end of the year. Think how incredible that would be. All kinds of intriguing matchups would occur, schools rake in the dough on extra home games, etc.

Needs to happen.

If you go to 8, you have to give some sort of reward for the top ranked teams. What’s the benefit of going undefeated if I’m just going to end up playing a 2-loss team at a neutral bowl site in the first round?

That’s what killed the college basketball regular season. As long as you get in the tourney, the playing field is level which renders the regular season worthless for the most part.

It’s also the worst part of college football. So many teams can just check out by now with only 10-15 realistic opportunities to make the Four. I mean we watch cause the college game is awesome, but the season is over for 90% of FBS.

I think 8 is the proper number. Enough for every game to still matter heavily yet just enough wiggle room for those 2 loss teams in late October and November to stay invested in maybe pulling off a miracle stretch to finish the season.

college football ain't just the CFP... You have conference championships, rivalry games, bowl eligibility to worry about

A 16 team playoff, sounds like something Michigan could maybe bubble into occasionally.

If the current CFP has shown us anything it is that only two teams belonged there. Look back each year. 2014, the Alabama-Ohio State game was for the championship. Oregon blew out Florida State, and Ohio State blew out Oregon. 2015, neither Oklahoma nor Michigan State belonged, as they were both BTFO. 2016, Ohio State and Washington again were BTFO. This year, we'll probably get the same result. Including 16 teams is just ridiculous.

Do you really think the college presidents want that bowl $$$ going to the NCAA instead of the Power 5 conferences?

The college football post season, like the tv contracts, were designed by the Power 5 schools to maximize revenue.
