Can I get a ruling on tipping for carryout food. Ive noticed a few cashiers act a little pissy when I havent tipped at checkout before
My gf (no pics) swears its some unwritten rule that its 10-15%
Why am I tipping to drive and pick up my food, not be waited on, and not take up a table

$1 per entree is the norm.
ETA: if its a pizza place you better not tip or i will come and beat your arse.

If it's a dude - $0
If it's a good looking chick, she'll get a few bucks

I'm not tipping when I had to leave my house to get the food. I didn't get any wait service so what entities them to a tip? I always tip the servers, bartenders and delivery drivers. But the person who just hands me my food and checks me out doesn't need a tip.

Usually, the host or hostess is going to be responsible for packaging everything up for you, making sure you have plastic forks/napkins, etc. after it comes out of the kitchen.
A couple of bucks is adequate, you cheap frick.

To me it depends upon if any care was taken in putting together the order. Were napkins etc included? Were thing easy to carry and also easy to put on a seat and not worry about it sliding around while driving? Generally I’ll give a couple of bucks - up to 3-4 if it’s a more expensive meal (dollar per entree or so).
If it’s crap and they just threw it together then no.

It honestly depends on they're attitude. I normally tip $3-5 when I pick up and it looks like they give a shite about my order. Last time I picked up an order, the 3 girls behind the counter were very friendly OT 4/5's and carried on a random conversation with me just being decent human beings and even though only one of them was helping me, I through them all 4 bucks each.

First, the folks doing the to go orders aren’t paid like servers, they are paid minimum wage or better. So if you do tip, just a couple of bucks will suffice.

I worry that places that have my info know if I tip or don't so time I'll get spit on my pizza or burger so I usually tip at those places. Or if I somehow hand the receipt back before I get my food.
Other than that, I just sign the receipt for the amount i owe and don't make eye contact.

Then her employer should compensate her. Plus servers in my state have to make full minimum regardless of tips so I'm already paying for it.

What kind of food was it?

I usually give 10%. In college, I worked as a manager/bartender and was responsible for getting to-gos ready. Its more work than you think.
