Cell phones in the deer stand

What's the OB's opinion on people playing on their cell phones/tablets in the stand?
I know some guys that turn their phone off or leave it in the truck because they enjoy the escape from the rest of the world. One guy says he turns his off because he really wants to focus on hunting and is scared he might miss a deer.
But, I know other people that are the opposite extreme. They play games, text, or even watch movies.
What does the OB think?

I’m guilty of messing around on my phone. I’ll sit on the stand for 30 mins, then play around on my phone, then put it up for a while and then pick it back up again. Just a way to pass the time. How people spend their time on the stand doesn’t bother me one way or another. Everyone’s got a different perspective I guess
ETA - and I definitely stream LSU games on the stand if I can get service

Depends on the hunt.. deer movement, how i feel about it. I always have my phone. But only actively goof off iff its a dead day, no movement.

In the morning I usually get settled into the stand a good while before shooting light. I’ll play around on the phone until close to shooting times begin then I’ll put it away for a long time. I’ll grab it and read something periodically through the morning and put it down.
In the evenings I play on it as soon as I get there and taper off use as the day closes. Around 4:30 it’s usually put away for good unless someone texts me. We message each other on hunts a lot on deer sightings. I find that builds hope and confidence if I’m not seeing shite, to know someone else on the lease is watching deer at the same time.
Much of it has to do with the type of stand I’m hunting, (I use it more in a box vs a climber or ladder). If the weather is really good or it’s the rut or deer movement has been good lately I use it less.

Two sons hunt together often. They use them to signal each other of approaching deer, when to leave the stand, etc. works for them.

I hunt in a box stand nowadays. I get up there with a playlist, coffee and a book

I listened to the LSU game on my phone today in the deer stand. Then again, I didn't get a deer.......

I try to stay off of mine unless somebody shoots or there’s a football game on.
If my job didn’t require it I wouldn’t own a smartphone.

My buddies and I texted each other all day while hunting.

I keep mine with me just because it's always nice to have your phone with you in case of an emergency. But I usually just use it to mess around on TD and talk to the other Baws hunting around me.

I have 2 of those rechargeable batteries that you can charge your phone with. Reading and playing Candy Crush helps pass the time.
Ill admit there has been times when I looked up and caught the arse end of a deer as it crossed a road in front of me. Oh well, having something to keep me from fidgeting and some entertainment keeps me in the stand longer.
