Wish he was a little more passionate in his calls sometime but all in all he’s very good.

hat's what was good Hawthorne would watch the practices he new the players and bled purple and gold.

When I think of lsu radio I think of the two games I listened to while I was little I don't remember the reason I couldn't find a tv but I wasn't even 10yo lol

The 96 cws win

LINK

The 99 georgia loss :(

LINK

Hawthorne was the man and called the game great idk what everyone is talking about that he wasn't good... he was awesome.

Recently I went back home and had a chance to listen to the good play by play that I missed. Stopped by Albertsons grabbed the pickapeppa cream cheese and triscuits, turned the parents big screen on put on subtitles then muted that shite and cranked up the radio.... wtf

I heard him 1x and i did not like the guy at all. Could b that I was in shock that Hawthorne was not on idk. But guy does not bleed purple and gold and doesn't sound like he knows anything about the players. I doubt he scouts lsu and goes to there practices. And did not seem to do as good of a job explaining what was going on the field I don't understand y we could not get a classic LSU player to call the games and do the post game interviews and reports. So they have some heart and emotion in the voice. I miss that out where I live :(

Hawthorn was horrible about stuff like that. There's a gaping hole in the LSU defense. Florida Rb tackled after a nice gain. Florida 2nd down and 10.

With Chris Blair, it's more like Etling drops back to pass, Chark is wide open, Guice goes out of bounds. LSU comes to the line for 2nd and 9.

I'm like what that what?

I haven't had to listen to any of the games on the radio yet with Blair but just going off his calls over the game highlights, he doesn't do it for me. He sounds like an emotionless robot.

I don't doubt that he's better than Hawthorne at describing the action but Hawthorne's intangibles were superior. I feel like sometimes Blair has some scripted lines he likes to toss in when there's an opportunity and it rubs me the wrong way. The "catch him on Twitter" line from last year and "Tuna Tar Tar" on the Devin White sack for example.

Hawthorne just had a special charm to him that I don't feel with Blair. Just my early take.

I am getting used to Chris's voice calling Tiger games, but grew up listening to John Ferguson on an AM radio. It was exciting, but nothing was like the first time walking through a tunnel into Tiger Stadium and seeing it in person.

I grew up listening to John Ferguson. Almost no games were on TV back then and radio was it. Ferguson had a great voice, but wasn't a good play-by-play guy. WAY too slow with information. The crowd reaction was seconds ahead of Ferguson. So yes, John Ferguson has a soft spot in my heart because that's how I followed most LSU games in my childhood, but he wasn't good.
He was great when in his prime. Got slower as he aged.

Ferguson and Walter Hill doing color on WWL 87 Radio was iconic LSU football. (Used to pick up WWL all over the country at night).............

What legend did he replace? John Ferguson retired in 1987 and since then there has been a hack filling his shoes. Blair is no Ferguson but I would take him over Hackthorne any day.
. You're wrong! Ferguson retired in '82.

I had to listen to some of the Florida game on the radio this weekend until I got home to watch the rest on TV. I can't stand his style! I miss Hawthorne badly. I felt like I was watching the game when Hawthorne was calling the play by play. With Blair I was constantly lost as to what was happening. He's just not very good!

This. He is boring. Made the comment during the in game thread. I’ve listened to LSU Football since the 50’s and I’m going with Ferguson as the best but Hawthorne owns the best memories award.

They cleaned up that call and removed "Jack Hunt". Last time I tried, I couldn't find the original call.

I find Chris Blair refreshing and polished. It was time for Jim to go. He was making too many mistakes on air.

What legend is Chris Blair replacing ?

Hawthorne was a very good announcer but he wasn't Vin Scully , Ernie Harwell or Jack Buck. Jim stayed about five years too long.
