Cooking Merganser Duck

Is there any way to prepare a common merganser to make it EDIBLE?

some people put enough cream cheese and peppers on stuff to make dog shite edible

It will be just about like eating spoonbill or teal that have been eating fish. basically, the only thing you can do is to fillet it out and soak it into oblivion in an effort to draw all of the blood out of it. then cook it in some way that covers up what flavor is left (i.e. mesquite grill wrapped in bacon with jalepeno, etc.)

I made some that was surprisingly tasty once.
Breasted them out, soaked in plain water with just a little salt for about 2 hrs. Changed water once during that time. Then patted vreasts dry and soaked in whishbone italian dressing overnight in a ziplock in the fridge.
Ligthly seasoned with a tonys prior to putting in smoker with cherry wood low and slow for 2 hrs.
Sliced thin and served. Interestingly, it tasted best once it had reached room temp. No fishy taste at all.

I've done it before with a 50/50 mix of milk and allegro game tame. Soaked over night, sliced thin, pan fried with some Tony's and garlic powder. I'd eat it again

Get a real nice cedar plank and grill them on that, when they get to medium rare throw them away and eat the plank.

Garbage can. Then buy chicken, goat, pheasant, beef, venison, elk, speckled belly,etc....

Never had a fishy Teal. Teal and Woodrow are about tops in my book.
Not doubting they'll eat a fish, just never had a fishy one during hunting season.

Soaking in orange juice takes out the blood/game taste, i have cooked other ducks like that as well and fried them and it taste almost like backstrap...You can always wrap it in bacon and stuff it with cream cheese and Jalepenos, you could wrap and stuff dog shite like that and it would taste good

Best and easiest thing to do is make jerky. If you don't have a dehydrator you can do it in a smoker without much trouble, since the meat pieces are so small it dries out easily. You really can't taste much flavor from the meat at all, just the spices/salt.

They had the father and son, Otto and Eiven, from Alaska Last frontier. They shot a couple of mergansers. They ended up frying the fish that were in the craw and eating them, couldnt eat the merganser itself.
