That's not true. The sales tax thing has nothing to do with where they are located

My mental math may be wrong, but I thought 300fps was 194mph? Remember it from paintball as a kid

It used to, at least in LA. If a company didn’t have a physical presence they were not obligated to collect sales tax and remit to the state. Now residents of the state were still obligeated legally to claim those taxes owed on their tax return, but we all know how that plays out.

Ellick is the answer if it needs to be by an airport. Lots of space by the airport there. Central location of the state and can get to any big city in the state in 2 hours, other than New Orleans.

Working distro for Amazon is a shite job. Don't believe the hype.

Regardless, they just hired like 3,000 people to work in 2 shifts for the one in Jacksonville. Think they said average pay was like $15/hour

Amazon has an entire legion of seasonal employees that roam from distro center to distro center in roving bands of RV Campers.

Meet the CamperForce!!! These folks don't pain an altogether glowing picture of working for Amazon.

I am going to take the odd selection of New Iberia.

Acadiana Regional Airport has plenty of runway and plenty of open available commercial land.

Aircraft painting and maintenance services exist there.

Quick access to I-10, I-49 and Hwy 90 to NOLA.

Direct railroad access.

FedEx has a presence there already.

There is a large pool of lower income potential workers to select from.

Plus it is home to the New Iberia haircut baw.

But Lafayette did just complete a new cargo terminal for UPS and FedEx so who knows?

Actually Orlando is in the running for the 50,000 employee center, secondary headquarters. (Main headquarters to stay in Seattle) Amazon sent the city an invite to submit a proposal- among who knows how many other cities. Would love to see it. Local news said it would have nearly the same impact (as far as employment) that Disney did here back in the 60's. Pretty big doin's.

Pretty close, 300fps is about 204mph.

Protip: you can type things like "300fps to mph" into Google for a unit conversion calculator.

Regardless, they filled 3,000 jobs in a single day job fair here. I'd say that is an overall good thing for the area.

According to Amazon, the job pays about 30 percent more than an average retail job and employees also get benefits like medical and dental insurance, as well as a 401K.

Sounds good to me (well for someone else, not me)

Hey look, I found an already built former GM assembly plant on 500 acres, 2 minutes from interstate 20 and 10 minutes from an airport!

Of course it would make too much sense for a government entity to go after such a business to fill all this empty space owned by the Caddo Parish Commission so it'll never happen. But at least we'll get out 3 wheeled Elio next year...or the year after. Or the year after.

The State should do EVERYTHING possible to make this happen.
i'm sure we will offer them massive tax breaks or exemption status while small businesses continue to struggle.

"Preis also showed them other locations but says the deal ultimately fell through. He says he later learned that Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama, were among the 20 or so other cities Amazon was mulling for the facility, and that Baton Rouge lost out because of its inadequate infrastructure, poor education system and relatively small airport."

Inadequate infrastructure??? Baton Rouge is home to the I-10's most spectacular and well thought-out artery known as the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge!!!! It is the 19th controlled traffic area in the US by American Transportation Research for Trucks. Surely Amazon didn't factor this into their site selection process.

Poor education system???? Scottlandville has one of the best educational systems in the Country. Scottlandville Magnet High School boasts 2.9% on the US News college readiness index, 48% of the students are proficient in English, and a stunning 31% are proficient in Mathematics!!!! This is the Research Triangle of Louisiana.

Small airport?
Amazon certainly hasn't done their homework because Baton Rouge Airport is as close to a Hub as you can get without actually being a Hub. It is home to 4 direct Non-stop Cities (Houston, Dallas, Charlotte, AND Atlanta) with the 3 largest airlines (Delta/United/American) in the US servicing Baton Rouge.

This Amazon move screams racism to me because Baton Rouge has SWB at the helm pure and simple. You have to be an idiot to think otherwise.
