BTR airport is trying to lease land that they own along Plank.

It will be next to an airport for sure.

They built one in Columbia, SC right next to the airport

Yes, it's the reason we started paying sales tax on most items the beginning of the year.

While I'd love to see it built at BTR, I assume Lafayette would get it. More centrally located & they have established UPS and Fedex air service. BTR has neither.

That would seem to make the most sense.

Got one of those about 20 mins north of where I'm at. It takes 12 Mississippi to drive past it at 70 on the highway it's huge.

Its about damn time Louisiana gets one of these. Desperately needed.

I imagine they wanted relative centrally located, but not far from New Orleans, where I'm sure the majority of LA business for them comes from.

Baton Rouge and Lafayette make sense.

Would the Hammond/Ponchatoula area make sense? Proximity to both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, access to both I-12 and I-55. It seems like property could be obtained at a lower price than BR, NOLA, or Lafayette. Lack of a major airport could be an issue, but it's only about 45 minutes to MSY.

ETA: Walmart already has a distribution center in Hammond.

Yep, they average about a million square feet. Most are 1750 feet long. And 12 Mississippi, you say? That works out to 146 feet/sec, which converts to... 100MPH! 70 my arse!

They will avoid putting one in Louisiana due to our inventory taxes. They will instead likely put one in Beaumont, TX and one in Woodville, MS.

Could've been going a bit faster plus my measuring technique isn't the most mathematically sound

The State should do EVERYTHING possible to make this happen. I wish BR was in the picture. Huge economic impact. This SHOULD be in news 24x7.

It's because the job can and is done by robots.

I don't know why you all are happy.

It means you will now have to pay sales tax on Amazon purchases.

I did the same thing passing the Nissan Canton plant in Mississippi the first time I drove by it.

I heard it’s going to be built next to all the land that Disney bought.

I wonder what their taxable inventory is for assessment purposes.

They would only run into issues if the total inventory tax is $500,000 or more.

And if that's an issue... I'll be they will get some kind of special exemption or break to offset it.

They charge sales tax on all purchases as of this year regardless of them having a business presence in the state in question.
