That basically says he's not good enough to be a playmaker when things break down.

Some of those "Under Pressure" is being kind. He had guys all over him/ in his face/ or running for his life on some of those. Better protection would allow better QB play.

After Sat. if you think Etling doesn't have the chops to be a good QB, you've never been one.

I agree that Etling was the least of he problems Saturday night. But, if we are really rebuilding, we might as well play the freshman and let him take his lumps.

My only concern is that the O line is so bad, he will be broken by season's end.

Not calling for him to be benched. He's not doing badly, just not very good. There are plenty of problems which need to be corrected and he is not at the top of the list.

Some of those calling for Etling to be benched aren't blaming Etling. The LSU team that was out there Saturday is fighting for a Peach Bowl invite at the end of the year. So if a great majority of the problem is youth...go all in on youth and start Brennan so that he can see what SEC play is and there are no "youth" excuses for next year. Having Brennan out there is much more beneficial to LSU than having an average QB in his last year trotting out there for an LSU squad that isn't playing for anything this year (based on how it looked Saturday). Now obviously you wait till the final horn of the Florida game before you do it, but if that game ends in defeat...gotta bring the kid in.

That's not the point. They would have eaten Brennan alive, too. But if he's our future we might as well get him prepared this year. No reason not to put him in the second half against MSU.

I'm not saying start him yet, but he needs more playing time. Now if we continue to stink it up, then it's time to start Brennan.

If we lose at Florida, I'm starting him at home against Auburn.

Wont matter. LSU is where backups are automatically better than seasoned starters.

We've got a qb that can escape the pocket and extend plays with his legs. He's just being looked over by fans

It still doesn't change the fact that he just isn't good.

I truly believe that Scott would have given defense's head aches as our QB. But I am the only one who believed this.

You missed a crossing route that to Dillon that hit him in stride and he only got one hand up and deflected the ball away.

One thing is obvious with some of the young receivers is that on quicker plays or when Etling has to release the ball sooner under duress, they are not getting their head around quick enough. The youth of or WRs showed in that game. Orgeron eluded to that fact a few days before that the WRs weren't "there yet".

Also, can anyone recall plays where the WRs got any separation? Outside the TD to Chark that was called back I don't remember any. I saw Miss St receivers open a LOT.

Cool. QBs have to learn how to deal with pressure. Every time he gets any pressure he isn't any good

As I have stated in another thread, Etling only completed 4 passes in the first half with one of them being a forward toss to Guice avoiding a sack. His completion percentage skewed upwards during the last drive when game was out of hand, essentially "give-me' completions. Etling also struggled mightily under any sense of pressure rendering plays useless. I was never against Etling as a starter but his inert character shinned through in his Saturday night performance and post game when he proclaimed that he needs to fulfill the roll of leader. I am shocked that he didn't consider himself (a senior QB and 2nd year starter) a leader it took a humiliating loss for him to state that he needed to become one.

If you look at the offensive unit as a whole a game manager, like Etling, is not what we need. The offensive line can't sustain blocks and depth is thin; WR's don't block effectively and can't consistently catch (mind boggling I know). We need a QB who can step up and win games, make the tough throw under pressure, and has ice in his veins. It may be tough to find someone like that on this roster but we have to give these other players a shot. Some of you say we forfeit the season if we go with someone else, I say we forfeit the season if we continue to trot Etling out their knowing the inefficiencies around him. We need someone to step up and it needs to happen now.

Give it up. He's not an SEC caliber QB and your facts support it.

Play calling also changes when you have an offense that relies heavily on the deep ball and a QB that can barely throw it 40 yards. The offense suffers alot because of Etlings noodle arm. We thought it would be good enough to get us by, but he cant make all of the throws to run this offense the way it needs to be ran in my opinion.
