Honestly I see us coming out with 3-4 WR even in running plays. You can't cover 4 wide and put 8 in the box.

also I think we shift a lot more than we have in previous games. I don't think we are vanilla this week.

Even as the Tigers have breezed to easy wins against BYU and UT-Chattanooga, Etling has attempted just 31 throws. In other words, head coach Ed Orgeron hasn’t displayed much confidence in the senior quarterback.

The media is so dumb.

Etling on the season:

22 of 31, 398 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 12.8 ypa; 189.5 Passer Rating

Yeah we should have totally chucked it 35 times against UTC when Etling rolled up 227 yards on just 14 throws in the first 2.5 quarters in an early blowout.

That article is terrible. Clear they didn't watch the games.

It's pretty shoddy, but QB problems are the narrative at LSU, and LSU is 121st in passing attmpts per game right now.

I know Etling has been efficient, but the narrative won't change until that efficiency is coupled with higher volume. We may not like it, but that's the truth.

This article should be used as a study in Journalism school for lazy reporting.
The author takes one fairly meaningless statistic and uses it to support the conventional wisdom.
A look at the QB ratings would show just the opposite.

Did you seriously link an MSN article covering college football?

Yeah it's bad. The better article would say LSU is still run heavy, and whether they rely on passing the ball to win a game against an equally talented team remains to be seen.

I can understand taking a wait and see approach to our passing game, but you can't suggest it has been bad this year so far.

Anyway here is how most view etling

When that article says "he hasn't done much" they mean it literally. As in, he's only thrown 31 passes this year and compared to the entire country it almost dead last. It's an article on msn, not sports illustrated or espn. Who cares

Threw for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns in a blowout win of #15 ranked team. Threw for 324 yards against the #22 ranked team. Those were much bigger stages than this one and he wasn't healthy in either of those games.

Texas A&M wasn't ranked#22, or at all when we played them. It wasn't a big stage, neither could win the SEC west, and their defense was ranked 97th against the pass.

2 games in he's #2 in qb rating in Sec. He's shown more zip and has good command of the offense. He needs to get better when under pressure. I think we have a huge advantage matching up our WR group vs their Dbs. I hope we see 3/4 wide all night long. We need to spread them out. They do have a solid front 7 so imo we need to force the D to get that 8th man out of the box to cover. This game needs to be pass to set up the run rather than run to set up the pass.

We don't have to throw 30 times a game to prove ourselves. If he comes out efficient again against state, and Lsu moves the ball and wins, the talking heads will start to back off. It is comical that they think we only attempted 31 passes because of lack of confidence in passing.

Sounds like a review that looked at a stat sheet to see the 31 attempts but didn't watch either of the games. Etling has been on-target, smart and a great leader.

You and I both know they won't back off until a game is won on his arm. They'll continue to question whether he can do it unless he's throwing TDs and/or more attempts.

EXACTLY! None of these so-called experts would have predicted his stats over the last two weeks, in a totally new OFF, with NO burned T/O's due to player/play miscommunication....DE will do fine Sat night. Stay balanced, play-action to the WRs and TE, and get after their QB!

And the competition. Until he can prove it against big time competition he'll be considered a question mark.

All that needs to be said, right there. I wouldn't be surprised if Etling winds up in the top three in terms of SEC QB rating at the end of the year.

Shhhhh!!

Let's keep Etling's game-changing potential under wraps as long as we can. The more teams underestimate him the better.

Further proof that the national media does little or no research.

pay zero attention to the pundits - they don't know any more than we do, and actually know a lot less when it comes to LSU.

You're wasting your time with them. Ignore them all.
