I actually recall the 8 inch floppy, though I never personally handled one.

I'm pretty sure our nuclear warhead facilities still run on those 8 inch floppy disks

Played the frick out of Oregon Trail and Carmen San Diego circa '86/'87. To this day, I think they are the only 2 computer games Ive ever played.

I'll be 43 in two months and was more tech savvy than the Nintendo kids who came after me. I wrote programs for my TI-99/4a and Commodores 16/64/128 and Amiga. We had Apple 2e/c and then our first Mac in 1985. online in the 80s. Oregon Trail seemed silly on my friend's IBM thing w the remote keyboard. We played Ultima on the Apple and Tunnels of Doom on the TI.

Sorry what was the point?

In. This is actually perfect. SFP and I have discussed the kind of weird mix of pre/post internet in such a short timeframe in one of the thousand or so generational threads on here.

Y'all remember this one? I remember playing it in computer lab at some point in Jr. High.

Not sure what it was teaching us, but it was fun.

I worked in a financial institution that kept old archived data on those 8 inch disks long after we no longer had the equipment to read them. The regs said we had to keep the disks. They didnt say anything about disk drives.

I have no clue how it was educational, but I fricking loved that game.

I tried playing a modern cell phone version, but it was a piece of shite freemium game.

26. That's me.
I actually got bored recently and found a site that has Oregon Trail and spent several hours playing. It's still awesome.

They gave us "Friday Bucks" at elementary school (4th/5th grades) for good behavior, acts of kindness, good grades, etc. At the end of each week we got to go to the computer lab and spend our "bucks" for either Oregon Trail, Math Blaster, an early Flight Simulator-esque game, or other activities. We could print out computer banners (in color no less) or make buttons (simple but pretty awesome).

I'm convinced we should have all of this at faculty meetings once a month as an adult.
