Why Cincinnati bearcats football is on the decline?

Seems like for a decent portion of the 21st century they have been a pretty decent mid-level team. Had some really good passing attacks in the past and has been ranked relatively high a few times.
Just saw that UM is nearly a 40 point favorite this weekend, and they almost lost to austin peay opening week.
I guess it was all due to brian kelly that they were successful? There was a period where cincy went 34-6 over 40 game period.

They got left out of the power 5 and recruits have noticed.

They were pretty good during the Dantonio/Kelly/Jones tenures and even had a few good years for Tuberville's first few. Getting locked out of a power conference was devastating for them.
Contrast that with Louisville - their peer almost every step of the way for the last sixty years until Louisville's jump into the ACC. Louisville managed to win a couple of big bowl games, had higher peaks, and showed a much stronger commitment to football - all things that managed to get them into the ACC.
They'll be fine if they ever get into a P5 conference (Big XII most likely currently). They're in a good recruiting area and still have a decently solid fanbase if the product is there. I think having Ohio State in state really holds them back.

Left out of P5, poor hiring after Kelly & Tuberville left and maybe the recruiting base is looking elsewhere ?

Tuberville really did a sorry job recruiting there. He was burnt out on coaching.

Tuberville is a f9t

They are like Tulsa baskeball in the 80s-00s.
They got lucky with a bunch of rising stud coaches in a row, but their luck ran out.

Marvin Lewis runs that city now

I think it's a stepping-stone gig for coaches/coordinators and it's hard to replenish/sustain quality hires for multiple decades.
After a decent stretch of (relative) success, feeder programs lose their up & comers and go into a period where they just suck, after hiring either stagnant re-tread names or just filler no-names .
Look at Tulane who fielded competitive teams in the 80's with Mack Brown, and into the 90's with Tommy Bowden & Rich Rod ... then Div 2 level suckiness in the new millennium.
Oh, and add Jimbo Fisher to the list of Cincy names that did stints there. Saban swiped him from Cincy and brought him to LSU.

I think the combination of Luke Fickell's ability to recruit Ohio, and the fact that Ohio State under Urban is recruiting nationally will make for very solid success at UC in the near future.
Kentucky actually has been responsible the success of Ohio State's ability to get players from all over. They clean up the scraps in Ohio.
It'll be interesting to see if UC can get those players.

I remember seeing statistics for FBS program revenue, and Tulane actually out-earned Cincinnati in the prior year.
It sounded a little unbelievable, but it would explain how Cincinnati appears rather mortal right now.

He's gonna win there. Probably take a year or two though

Big XII should've snagged Cincy and Houston. Maybe even try for BYU.

Reminder that if Nebraska holds on and beats Texas Alabama plays Cincinnati for the BCS title in 2009.

They are obviously missing the leadership of Butch Jones

All it takes is one bad hire in college football to turn success around.
Tuberville was a bad hire whose laziness at Cincinnati won't fully expose itself instantly.
