Suggestions for getting new tires?

I've gone with Costco as my tire place for the past decade or so mostly because of the buy 3 get 1 free deals they offer and also because they offer free rotation and balance. The warranty seems pretty sweet too though I've never had to use it.
I noticed that my latest set of tires have gone bald much faster than expected. They're only at 38k miles and the last time I got an oil change, the serviceman said he thought one of my tires was at a dangerous level. I had already noticed the tires were balding, so I agreed with his assessment.
When I went to Costco to schedule getting new tires, a guy was already at the counter getting pissed about his tires. He said they were way too worn down at 30k miles and wanted them to still be covered under warranty. The guy working the counter said the warranty doesn't cover wear and tear.
So...long story short - Where should I go to get tires? I'd like somewhere reputable but the free rotation and balance would be sweet too.

I can't help Baw, I usually just look at their prices wherever I pull in and go with one of he cheaper options as long as I've heard of the brand.
I got two Douglas on the front a couple weeks ago at the walmarks put on and all the works for like $135 if that helps... that's pretty damn cheap and I'll be 'cited if I can roll them 30k (although I'll push it either way)

Discount tire is legit if you have one. Same perks as Costco, cheap prices on almost any tire you can think of.

Dont go cheap on tires. Michelin or Hankook.

Read up on federal testing. Varieties of tires from famous brands are crummy. Moderate price possible.

Call around for the best price.
Make sure to remind them that you'll be bringing your own air with you so they won't need to charge you for that.

As with most things, 'you get what you pay for.' That said, I only buy Michelin tires and I only go to AGCO, because I trust the mechanics. No, they aren't the cheapest. Tires are too important to cheap out on.

I've gotten my last sets of tires at Sams.
And it's not a Costco issue, it's a manufacturer issue.
Get Michelin.

You won't like this answer, but you get what you pay for. I never think twice about spending more on a good set of tires.

Research the ones you want online, find a reputable local guy with additional services and buy through them. Might pay a few dollars extra but at least it's your decision.

Great prices and the warranty is unbeatable if you want to spend an extra $25 a tire. With their warranty they will replace a tire no matter what the cause is. Delivery is free. Had them ship tires directly to my mechanic. He called after they came in, all I had to do was bring him my vehicle.

Tires wearing out close to 50k miles isn't unusual depending on the vehicle. My minivan eats tires, regardless of the brand. I recently went with Falken and have been satisfied.

I've used NTB the past couple of times with no problems. They have rotate and balance for the life of the tires. I always get Cooper tires.

How long tires last is referenced by the tread wear rating.
A tire with a rating of 300 will last half as long as one with 600
Allied and Tire Engineers will honor mileage warranties of tire companies who warrant the mileage
