They have built 900 new $350,000 and up homes within a square mile of mine in North DFW.

Made my escrow go up $380 a month

Property Taxes gonna go nuclear.

It's the only reason why I still rent.

edit: inB4 someone tells me proptax is rolled into rent. I KNOW.

They already went nuclear. I hate how much in property taxes I pay a year for Southlake. At least I get a good ISD with that for my kids. That is the only salvation in my property taxes

Man I was house hunting on Zillow last night and I was looking at Prop Tax History.

One home back in 2009 taxes were 2k. Last year 8k. LOL WTF

Not really worth comparing a metro of 850,000 with the combined total of all 3 of Texas's largest cities. Housing market is actually not bad in Baton Rouge at the moment. It's robust in New Orleans as well.

I mean that's a pretty damn big thing. What's the point of living in NYC if I can't afford to do anything there?

Texas should implement a "You pay the amount in taxes as the state you came from". Win-win. Either they stay away, or the state gets more taxes.

I have no problem with people moving here, it's great for the state. I just wish they wouldn't try to force the policies from California on the place and would understand what makes it a great place for business and a cheap place to live.

it's outrageous. We got really lucky on our recent buy in Grapevine with sellers that needed to sell asap. But the property taxes are about 5x what our place was in Baton Rouge.

Name off some of those so called California policies that passed this session. Go on, list them right off the top of your cute little head

would you rather pay 4k a year in state income tax and 4k/year in property tax or pay 8k in property taxes and get a bigger deduction on your federal income?

The complaining about property taxes being high when you pay no state income tax makes no sense. People make out far better getting the deduction

?????

Property taxes in the area did not go above 5k for most homes until ~ 2013 .

A lot of homeowners in the area used to seeing 2-3k tax bills woke up over night to 6-8k tax bills. While the valuation of their home went up as well (which is a great thing) some folks probably had a heart attack when their house payment went up 400 a month...

I mean I understand you are trying to say that its better to have zero income tax which I agree with, but lets not sit here and act like people were not at least a bit shocked at their tax statements

I never said they did, and the people who think Texas will be California in 20 years are just as ridiculous. I am just saying it annoys me when I meet someone who has moved here because of the economic opportunities and then complain about the political policies and affiliations here.

yea it annoys me too when I meet some retired E7 who moves to DC to get a fat defense contractor job on top of his retirement pension and complains about "the gubment"

I'm surprised almost 3,000 homes were built. Where did they build them?

DFW has done a better job at new roads and traffic management than Houston or Austin.

But Collin/Denton county will be unbearable unless things are ramped up even more in the next 5 years.

Yea, I can't believe that 130k number isn't for DFW alone.

Yay my home value is skyrocketing!!!!

But with no plans to move that just means a higher monthly mortgage.

Super Catch 22 lol

And its hard even for someone like me who makes close to six figs to get into the market because like hell im going to pay 2-2.5k a month on my own just for housing. I pay 1.4k right now.
