to be soccer players
"There may not be anyone who loves anything as much as Jim Harbaugh loves football. But when young quarterbacks ask him how they can play football at Michigan, the coach offers some unconventional advice: play soccer, too."
"Most coaches say they like recruits who play multiple sports and can apply those skills to football. It isn’t uncommon for college-football players to have experience in baseball, basketball or track and field. But soccer? “I think every American boy should play soccer till the eighth grade,” Harbaugh said. “Then they should play football. American football.”
"Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck spent his early childhood in Europe with a soccer ball at his feet. He even found time to play intramural soccer as the quarterback at Stanford—where his coach was none other than Jim Harbaugh."
"Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott went to high school in Louisiana and could’ve played soccer in the winter after the football season, unlike kids in Michigan and other Northern states, where soccer conflicts with football as a fall sport. But he didn’t. And now he regrets it. The face of the NFL’s most iconic franchise said this summer that he should’ve tried soccer. He thinks it would’ve made him better at football."

Where you gonna find the fatties for the line if everyone plays soccer?

No thanks, I prefer my son not to get brain damage from playing football

Makes them more likely to agree to the sleepovers.

In about 1977 I was playing and "coaching" the soccer club team at Alabama. We had a roster full of world class athletes but played in the summer mostly for fun.
About six Alabama LBs and DEs came out all summer long and played soccer with us... and they got to be pretty good. When we would play a team from .... say ... a military base and would get ahead, we would put them in the game. It was a sight to see six huge guys playing midfield etc....
That Fall, coach Bryant came over to the soccer field and sought me out... and said "I don't know what you did with those boys but they are all so mobile and balance I want to send my linemen next year..." or words to that effect.
I coached and played the game for 50 years and I don't know any sport where the players don't become better athletes by playing soccer when young...
So you would rather him head a wet soccer ball when he is ten... oh... that makes sense...

I have no doubt that if America's elite athletes focused on soccer their whole lives instead of Football that the US would become a world power in Soccer.
Not that I WANT that to happen.
Not that I WANT that to happen.

I could see it really helping QBs.

As a soccer fan, I completely support this

Soccer is boring as frick.

I played football my whole life then joined the soccer team my Sophomore year of highschool. It's amazing how much translates over from soccer to football. Footwork, balance, route running, agility, spacing, and a huge bump in game IQ. If I were to coach WRs I would try to convince all of them to play soccer, even if they just practiced with the soccer team during the winter it would do wonders.

As if we needed more reason to hate that useless frick.

He's absolutely right. I cannot believe he's making me a fan of his...

Makes sense from a mental standpoint. You have to be able to read the game as it happens. Soccer forces players to think for themselves in a constantly changing environment.

Foot speed, stamina and field vision improve. The better athletes will have better balance and overall speed. I know of an ex-college football player who is now a coach who keeps his kids in soccer. They're better football players because of it, and they'll truck a player on the soccer field, legally.

Deuce McCallister was a great soccer player.
