I could see it really helping QBs.

Any position that requires good foot skills and mobility really. I know a former high school coach that told me he loved having guys who grew up playing soccer play LB and defensive back because of their foot skills and coordination.

Back in my day, the only soccer player on the FB team was the kicker.

I agree. I would want my QB to play CM. Would have to recognize pressure, pick out runs from teammates, make quick decisions, know when to dump the ball off instead of going for the home run, read a defense, etc.

I'd want my WRs playing up top or on a wing.

Fwiw, headers are not allowed before U10 in the youth leagues I know. Changed in 2015.

Serious question. Why would soccer be any better than Basketball in developing football skills?

I can see both being better than a kid standing around in the outfield and swinging a bat every 45 minutes.

Bigger field allows for players to make runs more similar to football routes. Need better footwork to get body in position to make passes. Allows to practice getting away from pressure closer to how you would in football. Helps you to get better at reading defenses. Etc.

I played soccer until about 7th grade (baseball until 8th) and then focused on basketball for high school along with the mandatory track team in bball off-season. I think different sports can help development for kids in that age range.

Makes you think for yourself more than playing basketball, since you don't have a coach telling which play to run every time you get the ball.

Makes sense. Especially for a WR. Never realized it for a QB other than seeing the field.

That Fall, coach Bryant came over to the soccer field and sought me out... and said "I don't know what you did with those boys but they are all so mobile and balance I want to send my linemen next year..." or words to that effect.

Did Coach Bryant also walk on water while he was there

Honestly, it should be tennis

Requires quick foot speed, much like in the pocket

Requires quick thinking

Requires you to own everything(you have no coach, no caddy, nothing), much like a qb has to.

I'm sure most know my story as a college tennis player. Before I quit most of the other sports around 10 years old, I was usually the best at them for my age group simply due to my high level tennis experience from ages 6-10. It helped my coordination and focus sooooo much more than the other kids

Now, things would have evened out if I kept playing the other sports at a high level, but tennis is a great sport for all ylingn athletes to take up in some compacity IMHO

That's nice Jim but if you want players to REALLY develop as athletes have them play hockey. Everything that soccer has, reading a play in space, spacial awareness, angles, footwork, condition, developing athletic skill, hockey has that in steroids, and the game is much faster which exponentially develops decision making skills.

Hockey is expensive

Soccer unless your playing travel in America isn't.

A) The learning curve on tennis isn't as large as soccer

B) You ain't getting inner city kids to have access to courts

C) Tennis is much more expensive than soccer from a beginners standpoint

(I played and coached tennis for 10 years. Love the sport. Still play monthly, but soccer is the better avenue from a realistic standpoint)
