Will 1 full season be enough to know if coaching change was the right move?

Usually, judgement is held off until the new coach has a few years to get his recruited players and system in place. Will O get this same courtesy if the season ends 8-4 or worse?
He will be credited for success by most fans, if he goes 10-2 or better this year.
I am expecting 8-4 this year and 10+ wins next year and do think the coaching change was a good move.

I say yes since we will see just how changed the offense actually is.
Regardless, we had to get away from what we were doing the last 4 years. We're too good of a program to be happy with a 10 win ceiling. So the answer is already yes.

Yeah. If he wins the SEC.
The way I see it, we payed Les 10 mil not to coach us because we were fed up with the 9-3 seasons. I see no reason to expect anything less from his successor. I expect 10 wins annually with the occasion down year and occasionally playoff year.

The No-O's promised to wait until the second play to complain about him!

I recall no such thing when Miles took over. Expectations were high with the talent he inherited.
Same rules apply for O.

Since when do we accept 8-4. No matter who is coach?

Bringing in Will Wade was for sure the right move. CJJ sucked!

Unless it goes horribly horribly wrong (something like 2-10), then no.
That's really the only would you could make that judgement in year one. Even on the other end if he went like 11-1, one season of success isn't enough to say it was the right or wrong move.
So like I say, the only way you can make that call after 1 year is if it's just disastrously bad which isn't allowed at LSU.

Just 10 wins? Damn baw. You suspect. You like to be mediocre?

I agree that 8-4 and 10-2 would be indicative of at least a lateral move, with potential upside. 8-4 will not pass the public perception test though...and it would be a pretty rough offseason.
9-3 is legitimately reasonable. 10-2 would be hard to argue against being on very firm ground.
For me, my concern about the coaching staff will actually be rooted in the recruiting results. If Orgeron can continue our run as a top 5 talent endpoint, then at least we know that should Orgeron ultimately fail on the sideline, the next coach will enter with a full cupboard and capable of winning right away.
My best guess is that Orgeron will have Miles like success.

I think anything more than 4 losses or less than 3 can be attributed to the coaching change.

You have to also factor in what Les would have done this year, which would not have been pretty.

Based on what? LSU's 2018 schedule (on paper at this point) looks much tougher than 2017. Instead of BYU (this year) LSU opens the season in Dallas vs. a Miami program that seems to be on the way up under Richt. The road schedule also looks tougher. Yes, Bama is in Baton Rouge, but LSU will go on the road to Auburn, A&M, Florida and Ark. The two Mississippi schools (probably the most winnable SEC games) are at home. Also, LSU drops Tenn. in exchange for Georgia.
LSU is going to have to navigate that schedule with a new (likely) inexperienced QB; no premier Heisman candidate on offense (Guice) and possibly some big changes on the OL. Plus, you never know what will happen with the OC/DC after this season and we certainly know that Ogeron can't become the de-facto coordinator of either group. He MUST (moreso than the avg HC) have great coordinators if he is to have success. He can't take over the play calling on offense like a Malzahn, McElwain, Mullen or on defense like a Saban, Muschamp, Smart.
5 SEC road games are NEVER easy. But THIS is Ogeron's year to make some noise. Not next season

Even if we suck this year, there's more excitement and positive momentum around this team than there was in any year under Johnny

This. Right on, brother. I can understand people looking at 5 road games and freaking out, but we will be favored in at least three and more likely 4.
10 wins will be slightly disappointing because it will likely mean we either lost in the swamp or lost to Auburn at home for the first time since '99.

What system? His entire pitch was that he would recruit and let his coordinators have full autonomy.

I sort of agree. I think more than 4 losses is attributable to the coaching change, though I expect that Les would not lose more than 3 games this season. I think less than 3 losses is probably attributable to the OC change, which probably would not have happened without the coaching change, though I think that is not at all certain.
I am awaiting the season with nervous anticipation.

No, one full season is probably not going be enough to know if it's the right move, but I think it might be enough to know it's the wrong move.
I expect LSU to go at least 10-2 this year, so it's going to be pretty hard for Orgeron to exceed my expectations. For this to be considered the right move, Orgeron needs to prove he can sustain success over several years. Personally, I'm fired up for the Orgeron era, but just winning this year, where we have a pretty favorable schedule, is not enough data to go off of.
However, if this team goes 8-4 or worse, I'll be pretty critical of the hire, unless there are serious mitigating circumstances.
Mitigating circumstances include:
*Etling going down and none of the backups pan out (similar to 2002 when Mauck got hurt mid-season).
*Major injuries on the O-line (I mean to the point we're playing 3 freshmen or walkons). Competent coaching should be able to make a patchwork offensive line work to some degree
