NOLA.com article on empty Friends restaurant
That this monstrosity was ever approved in the first place is still unreal. Now it'll sit empty forever, as there is no parking for it.
And yet another strip mall is being built in Mandeville.
The cluster created by the new red light on Hwy 22 in Madisonville is just rubbing salt in the wound.
Mandeville/Madisonville has officially become Metairie North. can we just go ahead and rename it now?

Sounds like Baton Rouge where it's "let's throw another housing development here . . . rezone for commercial right next to it . . . another development in this drainage area here . . ."

How popular of a destination was this restaurant? Obviously not too popular if it went under...

Yeah, building that ridiculous thing was beyond retarded. Friend's had sucked for years before the original restaurant was destroyed. Building it back 10x bigger was certainly not going to change that.
It's amazing to me that someone would sink that much money in a venture doomed for failure. Good location was never going to make up for overpriced mediocre (at best) food.

Well, it isn't just the idea that more and more people are coming. It's the fact that the city council, parish president, and sheriff's department are all largely corrupt. Couple that with the fact that the infrastructure is inadequate, and you have Nola2.0.

Make sure everything is single entrance. No grid street system allowed. Dump everyone onto 8 lane clusterfricks spaced out every 5 miles.

and you have Nola2.0.

yup. I'm convinced Pat Brister will rubber stamp any subdivision fated to frick over traffic and drainage immediately.

I had to live in Mandeville for a while post-Katrina. Hated it. The infrastructure is a fricking wreck. The Northshore's for quitters anyway.

You might literally be retarded
The growth (mostly from Madisonville) is going to turn 22 into a nightmare until it's widened but that will eventually happen and everyone's property values will continue to rise.

Hmmm...it does wonders for Ruffino's in Lafayette and Walk On's as well for that matter....I'm not thinking that Friend's location was as good as you think. I mean isn't parking a requirement to call a location good???

Man, you northshore people have one heck of a sense of humor. lol I was just goofing around. But the parish president is a criminal. And about the racetrac, the gas station developer will not likely be obligated to widen or improve anything beyond the four corners of their lot. That is what the "mandatory impact fees" are supposed to provide funding for...and yet, in more cases than not, larger developers are awarded Parish "credit" for those and don't have to pay. In the case of the St. Anthony's Garden retirement facility on Dove Park...the Parish actually PAID THEM for worthless land! And now we receive more traffic and worse flooding than ever before.

The Northshore (excluding Slidell) is the nicest area to live in SELA. Yeah it's growing and getting more congested but I'll take that everyday vs 24 miles south.

Maybe 10-15 years ago. Too many people know about it now. The cat's out the bag.
