Louisiana is the second-most expensive state to buy car insurance, according to a new study, a jump from fourth place over the last two years.

The average annual premium in the Bayou State is $1,921, 46% higher than the national average, and second to only Michigan, where drivers, on average, pay $2,394.

The figures come from Insure.com, which for four straight years has found Michigan has the highest car insurance costs.

And, like Michigan, Louisiana has a higher-than-average number of uninsured drivers on the road—almost 14% of motorists here don’t have insurance, and a large share of drivers with insurance have a “bare-bones” policy, the report says.

How do drive without insurance? How do you get a plate, brake tag, license? Seems like this is a job the cops should handle.

Underinsured motorists suck too. 10/20 isn't doing shite if you hit a reasonably in-shape vehicle.

Blame the piece of shite rich lawyers and chiropractors and the idiot judges that allow every asswipe that gets rear ended $50k, which they will only see about $8k worth since the piece of shite lawyer and doctor get the majority of it.
And these idiot judges and lawyers want to raise the limit for a non jury trial to $100k so they can make even more money off louisiana drivers.

frick them and the dip shits that think they deserve money b/c they got bumped from behind.

too many people that drive around without insurance = higher insurance premiums for the people who do follow the law and purchase insurance

pretty much like always the law abiding citizens footing the bill for POS citizens.

New car technology is going to take care of this for the most part in the next decade. Auto collision warning, autobraking, side and rear collision alerts are amazing. I have them on my 2017, Soon enough they'll be mandatory.

If you do not pay the extra bit for uninsured motorist in your policy you are taking a huge gamble in LA. Had an aunt make that mistake and got hit by a drunk illegal without a pot to piss in. He was unsueable and she got screwed which is sad because as fricked up as it is to say partly her fault for not having uninsured motorist. So if you live in LA and you do not have uninsured motorist in your policy go get that shite today that is something to not skimp on living in LA.

I wonder how much of this is a function of having such high insurance rates. If insurance rates dropped would more people buy insurance or policies that are more comprehensive?
