Mcconnell may have just known he needed to get a vote done to shut down the crowd
Maybe, but still the Senate Majority Leader bringing a bill to the floor that only needs a simple majority that fails, is a major failure for him. The optics are terrible. Add to it that it is a bill that has had MAJOR Republican support for 7 years now. And it was such an unorthodox way of proceeding. He likely recovers, but it's a huge black eye for him the next few months.
Contrast it with how Pelosi and Reid whipped the hell out of votes in 2009 and 2010. They didn't bring it to the floor until they knew they had the votes to pass it. Or even Ryan a month ago with his bill.

100% the democrats saying nyet
Well, when the Democrats were in control 100% of Republicans cryed "nyet", and yet bills were passed and the democratic agenda went forward. At what point do we finally acknowledge that Trump, Ryan and McConnell all lack leadership skills?

McConnell has a track record of being an excellent political tactician. Which should lead you to question why he'd have a vote that he didn't know was going to pass (or not).

The democratic party has a semblance of connective tissue, the republicans is bone on bone. they hate each other.

Maybe the Republicans don't put party first

I'm also glad the bill failed. Not for the same reasons though. Now Obamacare can safely fail and the RINOs and Democrats are fully on the hook to accept responsibility for it. It's honestly a win win considering it was a shitty bandaid anyway.

Is government action really the only thing in the universe that can accomplish this?

when you are in a situation where you want to pass a bill, and hope the other legislative body doesn't pass it you aren't making good decisions for the country.
How about voting for a bill in hopes that it will be vetoed?

But...wasn't Obama able to flip the votes of Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and several Congressmen, to secure the passage of his signature bill? Trump doesn't act, he simply REACTS.

Well, when the Democrats were in control 100% of Republicans cryed "nyet",
Did it say, "nothing will pass as long as those a-hole Democrats say nyet?"
Nope.
Just said nothing will pass as long as that is what they choose to do.
If you think that it is justified revenge, fine.
Doesn't change the reality of the situation.
