Some you ChemE or manufacturing types might know the answer to this. Surfaces get sticky to the touch almost without warning. A famous example of this is the interior parts of the F355.

You won't have to worry about any food from McDonald's having this problem.

You're supposed to wash out the Fleshlight after you use it.

I had that problem in my Maserati. Those Italians just don't know what a Louisiana summer is like.

I have some older binoculars that got a tacky sticky texture. I searched the inter webs and found that rubbing talcum powder on them helped.

Polymer molecules 'crosslinked' together eventually degrade and 'un-link' and revert back to smaller polymer molecules.

Spray plastic with deet. That will fix it.

Plasticizer gassing out of plastic interior parts and UV degradation because of the sun. Years down the road the plastic pieces will dry out and crack.

Happened to a steering wheel in a car I once owned. I found I had black gunk all over my hands and clothes as well from that damn steering wheel.

Plastics break down, sometimes in odd ways. I had a mountain bike with elastomers in the suspension. After a few years, they would either (1) turn rock hard or (2) melt and form a puddle on the floor. Replace and repeat,

The rubber soles on some shoes are notorious for just falling apart, often after sitting in the closet and not even being used, I had some Ecco dress shoes do this, and google showed that it happens all the time with different brands, Ecco gave me a gift card for new shoes. That had never happened with the pairs that I wear regularly.

Same thing happened to me. Ended up replacing it because I couldn't stand the sticky feel to it. Common problem to a lot of them.

The rubber on camera bodies is a good example of the evolution of the rubber surface to sticky. Hate that!

I had the same experience with some casual shoes with medium sized rubber like soles. I did not wear them for several years and when I did the soles. Broke apart as I was walking in them. To make it to my car after eating out, I had to slide my feet.
