I didn't want to be the first to say it but I am skeptical as well.
Skeptical of what? It's going to be a 1 year deal for $4ish or less. This is not a big move it's signing a bench player. Just because we still have a hole in the starting lineup doesn't mean we should measure Rondo by that hole.
If Rondo plays defense in addition to his passing he'll be a useful player. If not then he probably will be about as productive as Frazier was, which wasn't terrible but also wasn't good.

Now make a big move for a off ball guard

Takes two to tango in the PnR.
Rondo w Garnett and sheed had good synergy numbers in the PnR
That just leads to the point that you need spacing for rondo to be effective

Only way to get spacing at this point is either internal improvement or a trade of our trash for someone else's trash that can shoot a 3.

Read the entirety of what I said.
If he is a bench player it is a good signing. If he is going to be playing significant minutes running the starting unit, ala Frazier/Jrue, it is concerning. You of all people should recognize the cohesion issues offensively since it was you pointing out how bad he is at areas Finch and Gentry need in their offenses.

If Rondo plays defense
May be wishful thinking. I hope he has one more year of good D left but he was pretty bad last season.

I think the best lineup for Rondo will be Rondo/Jrue/Qpon (if he can get onto the floor)/AD/Cousins
But I do think he will start at least most nights

Rondo with Boogie two seasons ago averaged 11/11/6 on 48% shooting
And that's without a top seven player on the court with them.
I'm excited.

well this franchise is at a critical juncture this season and rondo has shown the ability to wreck a organization with his cancerous attitude. It starts getting bad, he gets in Cousins head, it spreads to Davis or divides the team. Who knows
This is more about the player than it is the price
Of course it could go the other way. Maybe Cousins, AD, Miller with the UK connection helps a bunch. Erman is said to have a good relationship. Gentry is a players coach. I mean, there isn't many better situations you could throw a guy like Rondo in. If it fails it's going to be epic

I agree, I think Crawford would be a better "starting" PG than Rondo or Frazier. But Frazier shot 31% from 3 and 40% from the field last year, I don't see how a Rondo that doesn't play defense is any different than Frazier. Again, it's not good but it's also not terrible. The team just brought in a Frazier replacement that has some upside if he finds the motivation he's been missing the last few years.

And see that is where I disagree.
Our best unit last season post Cousins was Jrue/Moore/Hill/Davis/Cousins. It had a net rating better then the Clippers starting unit.
I'm not even the biggest Moore fan but it adds an outlet spacer and guy that can be a secondary facilitator and cutter to make defenses honest. Which Finch needs.
If you run that unit and bring Rondo in to run the small ball Cunningham/Davis lineup that can feed on Rondos excellent transition passing and then to play with Cousins like in Sactown while AD is sitting, I like it. I like it a good bit actually.
If you are running a whole lot of Jrue/Rondo/Hill/Davis/Cousins I become really worried about the cohesion and flow of that unit.

I see your point. The difference is Rondo not playing D is by choice, whereas Frazier's diminutive build limited his capabilities on defense no matter how much effort he put out there.
Pels coaches and players just need to figure out what buttons to push with Rondo. The capability is there.

That unit doesn't have enough ball handling IMO, neither Jrue or Moore seem super comfortable facilitating an offense for long stretches.
Rondo is no worse than Tyreke for this offense, only he looks to pass more so than score once the offense is broken down. Rondo has also been really good from corner 3's as well, so he can work some off of the ball.

Neither of which are in alignment with what Rondo brings. He surprisingly is not a very good pick and roll player,

Somehow dump one of the bigs and get a SF and I'll be content with this off-season.

pace with boogie on the floor with rondo is going to be the issue
Davis will be an incredible transition partner for rondo and that's where rondo shines, but if the pace slows with boogie/rondo, it doesn't look pretty
rondo will not be guarded at the arc and he is not a PNR guard

That is sort of why Finch made so much sense.
None of them are true floor generals, but Finch thrived in taking situations like that and turning it into a league leading offense by running much of it through a strong facilitating big man with secondary facilitators, decent spacing and cutting. Hill, Moore and Jrue can all be solid secondary facilitators and Cousins has the ability to be our Jokic(and AD has been focusing on his passing and handles this offseason as well).

Rondo's ability to be a primary ball handler and to be great passer alone puts him ahead of Frazier. If he plays defense it's even better and if he can knock down shots at a respectable rate (which he's done more than Frazier) we've made a good signing.
His attitude is concerning and this could blow up in our face. On the other side, I also think it has the possibility to catapult this team into a championship mindset. Show this team what it takes to compete at the top of the West. He's got an alpha dog personality that is obsessed with winning and will demand a lot from his teammates. And if controlled and harnessed well it could make the Pels potent
