I'd really like to convey something to the Tiger faithful...

I have kind of a unique look into the people and cultures of other schools and fan bases. I've spent time at lsu, tex, Tex a&m, I was the first person in four generations to be born outside of Louisiana - our family moved to Texas for a better job opportunity for my dad. I grew up attending LSU football and baseball games, and I was raised on LSU sports and some of my fondest memories growing up revolved around that community.
I know all passionate fans, myself included, want to win more than almost anything else...but winning is actually not what makes LSU such a special place (even though we have a great history of winning ??. What makes LSU great is the people. The hospitality, compassion, and generosity that pervades the entire fanbase. I have never experienced such an environment in which stangers inviting you into their tailgate and sharing everything they have with you is considered, not even a nice one off, but just normal behavior. Just my two cents.

People talk about this all the time, but I have never once been invited into a total stranger's tailgate.
How does that even happen, "hey you! Come over here, guy. I've got hot boudin and jambalaya cooking"? I have zero experience.
However I did do that for some Wisconsin fans to try our food in Lambeau.

Your rite man great post. LSU athletics is more of a hobby and part of our culture really. That said, you've got good ole Cajuns from every crack and crevise rolling down to BR to see the tigers play. That's the people who make it so unique. It's no diff than being in the middle of the spill way or in some town surrounded by thousands of acres of rice. They don't leave often but they'll definitely drop everything to suport their tigers.

probably because you were wearing LSU gear. it has been my observation that LSU tailgators are extremely hospitable to out of towners from the school we are playing. but if you are local, you can be perceived as a freeloader. hell, do your own damn tailgate; this shite cost money and takes time.

See....it's knuckle dragging mouth breathers like you sir that give alum, fans and residents of La, especially s. la a bad name. Do everyone a favor and move to bama

quote:you can't be serious. I've lived1/2 my life in both places and a short stint in the mid-west and can tell you without exception, the people of Louisiana are far more "clickish" than any of the three. Especially those that ran from NOLA AND BR to PVille. Living there in the late 70's to late 80's and then mid 2000, wasn't nearly the same. They infested that nice country community like a bunch of sick rats. Give me Houston area over La everyday.

I'm very proud to be from there, but choose not to live there as a retired person.

Thank you for your kind words.
The fact you mentioned no only is shared by the LSU fan base but by the ENTIRE STATE.
My mother told me many times that during WW2, the soldiers from out of state would say that about the hospitality and generosity of the people of our state.
Its a remarkable trait and justly deserved.

Good guy named Coosh from Gonzales invited me over for some legit jamb just a couple weeks ago in Omaha. He was cooking for any and all comers every day of the series. So, I have sent it!

Broke arse shite hole educated state calling somewhere else a shot hole? The only place in Texas that I've been worse than 1/2 of Louisiana is Port Arthur/ Beaumont. You know why? Most of the people there are coonasses. I can't for the life of me understand show one of the most hatred filled people consider themselves friendlier than other places. Get some culture and live other places before you judge another place. Hell the people of Missouri are 10000000X friendlier.

LSU is Louisiana from Slidell to Shreveport, Marrero to Monroe, Lake Charles to Lake Providence and everywhere in between!

I've never been pulled in by strange tailgaters to drink their beer and eat their food. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I should wear the opposing teams shirt.

Don't say that too loud around Oklahoma fans. I still get to hear on a regular basis about how loud, rude and obnoxious LSU fans are, after that little NCG in the dome in January of '04.
My reply is always that OU fans just whine too much and aren't passionate enough. They always get pissy hearing the truth.
