Very nice post. Agree 100%.
LSU is more than just going to sporting events for me. I attended school there and basically grew up on that campus, with my father having worked there for 26 years. I feel at home when driving or walking on campus.

I have had several experiences of Tiger fans yanking me into their tailgate parties over the years. Communication is a 2 way street so YOU can always be the one initiating dialogue. You millenia lsu do understand that, right?

I agree 100%. Nicest people and fans in the whole country.

The one that's better than louisiana in every measurable way? Except maybe food in one city.

A number of years ago I was driving through Boston and needed directions. I asked a man who said follow me. He bought me a paper along the way. I follow him to the place I needed to go to, he gets out and say he lived in LA for a couple of years before WWII and had never been treated so well, that helping a lost southerner in Boston was the least he could do for the kindness he was shown years before.

Good post. Me, my wife, daughter, and friend went to the LSU Florida away game in 2008.
We brought tents, generator, sound system, and cooked pastalya for about 50 people.
All I heard about prior to us leaving, was horror stories about LSU fans going to Gainesville.
Well, we got to the campus at around 8:00AM for a 7:00PM night game. Needless to say, we had our pick of what parking lot to set up. We got on a lot about a 1/4 mile from the stadium.
It was $20 per vehicle, and we had 2 vehicles. We told the guy at the lot we had 2 tents to set up. He told us no problem, but those 2 tents will take up another 2 parking spots. Told the guy, 'not a problem', and handed him $80.
We set up right across the street from a convenience store that had public restrooms. Perfect !!!
We set up and began to cook, play music, and drink by around 9:00AM.
Around noon we started being surrounded by Gator fans. We all began to mingle, and invited anyone around us to come eat.
I have a laptop with around 100,000 songs, so we had people requesting music all day.
We met some younger folks that pulled up in an old ragged out blue & orange school bus. They parked it pretty close to us.
They saw we had music, and begged me to point one of the speakers towards the bus. I did that, and gave them some pastalya as well. They allowed our tailgate to use the bathroom in the bus.
Bottom Line: We got our butt whipped good in that game. Didn't matter. Football is a game, that includes tailgating, and meeting new people. That's what we at LSU are the best at.
If you don't go out and introduce yourself, and really mingle with the natives, you'll miss the best part of SEC football.

I know all passionate fans, myself included, want to win more than almost anything else...but winning is actually not what makes LSU such a special place (even though we have a great history of winning ??. What makes LSU great is the people. The hospitality, compassion, and generosity that pervades the entire fanbase. I have never experienced such an environment in which stangers inviting you into their tailgate and sharing everything they have with you is considered, not even a nice one off, but just normal behavior. Just my two cents.
We all have our own experiences. I was was able to go to graduate school outside the state of LA. For one reason or another, the school was a melting pot of SEC undergrads. I was fortunate to have at least one classmate from every SEC school. Becoming friends with those people gave me the opportunity to attend football games at many other SEC venues (even games where LSU wasn't playing). I will say that the welcoming of strangers at tailgates was far less prevalent at the other schools. On many occasions, even with friends of the tailgaters, I was made to feel like I was imposing. That said, the consensus among the other SEC fanbases (that I experienced) was that LSU far and away had the WORST fans in the entire conference. Not worst in the sense that they didn't support their team. But worst in that the people were obnoxious, rude, assholes. I would have expected such opinions from Ole Miss or Bama fans, but it was surprisingly universal around the league.
When you are in a new place and know essentially no one, the conversation tends to move to something where everyone has a common ground. For me, it was college football. Obviously people who are fans of (then 12) different schools can't agree on much. However, I was a bit surprised to see just how much they all agreed on the terribleness of LSU fans.

Did one of those terrible LSU fans try to harm a fricking tree, rub his junk on a passed out fan, or cause a Clemson QB to have to leave a sports bar/restaurant?
Do LSU fans go to far with their "passion" that's really a excuse for being rude? Yes, but to try label them as the worst is laughable.

I always try and bring friends that are supporting the visiting team (victim) and we always get a invite to tailgates.
