The BOP and all the failures for it to contain the well occurred after the influx incident had taken place. Had BP run a CBL, caught the failure of primary cement with interpretation of the pressure tests, and remediated (squeezed) the cement that likely never would have come into play.

I wonder how realistic the movie was to reality?
I obviously wasn't there, but have spent time on deepwater floating rigs. I've been on transocean rigs. It was pretty far fetched in a lot of ways, and pretty spot on for others.

Yep, that's how I understand it as well. Granted, the accounts I were told admittedly had a little bias slant.

If you read the account in the report he was the last one off the platform by jumping off the helipad.... alone

Remind me, did they get the rig off of the ocean floor or is it still down there?

Instead of sending waste materials back to shore in cutting boxes, they were caught pumping waste (from many job sites) back into formations.

Buckled pipe ????????
All them doctors are impressive.
Wonder if the formation kicking the plug, that was set for cement and the cement, up the hole into the work string had anything to do with the buckling.
Anyone have any idea what the BHA (bottom hole assembly) consisted of?

I know there is wreckage down there but I think they tried to recover the big pieces... check out the LUMCON Facebook page they were just down there with an ROV

Was a chief engineer on two of the biggest lift-boats in the world.
Liftboat Robert, is 290ft in length with a breadth of 135ft, with 335ft legs. This one?
The poster Chedballz can see the sister ship from his office.

He had to jump off the rig, and is deaf in one hear now. He got a settlement and bought properties and lives off that income.
Sounds like he came out pretty well from it

Sorry you had to sit thru that.
Literally one of the worst movies I have ever watched.
I thought it was pretty good. I got emotional at more than one part.

Yep, I may or may not have had something to do with building those bigass boats.

Worked on the main intervention boat that was onsite 4 days after it happened. I have tons of pics and videos of what was going on. You could've almost jumped boat to boat for miles without even getting your feet wet.
They fricked up, and spent a shite ton of money capping it off as fast as they could. I have never and will never see that much money and manpower in one place again in my life.
The local good ole boy shrimpers are the ones who got their come up. Lied for years about income. BP was paying top dollar for them to skim oil. That's why there are so many Vietnamese, and Chinese owned shrimp boats in the gulf now.

I don't really have an opinion on the movie, but as a person who has spent a considerable amount of time on offshore installations, this movie was scary and laughable at points.
We all know the main character as someone who was a "hero" type figure, but couldn't stand that person IRL. The similarities from rig to rig were a little close to home. If anyone on here has ever been through a real emergency offshore, we all can relate to the feeling of helplessness.
The movie however definitely took its liberties but I enjoyed it. The GF got a fast track on the dangers of that type of work quickly.

My Pops worked for BP at the time of the spill (He was based onshore). Didn't see him for about a year because he was so busy after the explosion.
One thing I got from the entire situation, being that I had inside info from my dad, is that the media says what they want to say and really shouldn't be whole heartily trusted.
...Also that Billy Nungesser is an arse-hole

I don't work off shore but in the O&G manufacturing sector. Movie had me very emotional several times. It just hits too close to home.

I know the man personally. And you simply don't know what you are talking about.
Mike reported to the bridge after the blowout. Because that was his official muster station. He was part of the damage control team. As the electronics control officer, he tried to get power restored to the bridge so that they could try to engage the BOP umbilically from the vessel. But the generators were gone, and it was hopeless.
The reason he got so much credit is because most people bailed right away. They didn't report to their correct muster stations and go through their damage control checklist. Mike did.
By the time they elected to abandon ship, the vessel was so far off center that the fires prevented Mike from getting to the life boats. So he climbed up and out onto the heli deck, and jumped 90 feet from there into the ocean, breaking his ankle when he impacted the water. The only difference in the movie is that Gina Rodriguez wasn't there with him. That was Hollywood.
Anything else you want to know? I can text Mike and ask him for you.
