Didn't read all 5 pages. Did anyone figure out that the 400 hours is a MINIMUM requirement for BASIC TRAINING to be certified as a police officer? This is the minimum number for the academy. The second number is their yearly training requirement. As it turns out, BRPD already exceeds his "reguired" hours.

The article has a serious error about the requirements. 400 hours a year is certainly unreasonable, and the bill would not have passed 82-5, and 30-3 if that were the case.
Whenever there is a story about a bill in the legislature, just click the link to the bill and read it. It usually isn't that daunting. This bill is only 3 pages, and you get to read the primary source.

So you are taking officers off the street to take 400 hours of training. This will really hurt small depts and help increase crime.
Why dont he work on having criminals take 400 hours of classes on basic life skills before releasing them from prison?

So if this requirement had been in place....
Whether officer hesitates and allows someone to get shot, or shoots sterling before he can get to his gun, the incident is investigated. And someone is free to ask "How did he behave during that race relation training?"
Now that officer's career, and possibly freedom, is up to the opinion of that instructor. Who probably believes in white privilege and all that.
That's frightening. And this law will be state wide..

That should help the already plummeting recruitment of LEO.
Ted James is one of the most racist legislators left in either chamber now that BR has been blessed with SWB.

Also: what exactly is on the 400 hour curriculum. I mean specifics of coverage that you need that volume of time.
I bet he doesn't have one, and that 400 hours is an arbitrary number pulled out of his arse.

I could see there being a time where there are instances of cities no longer having enough applicants to have a fully-staffed police force. Police are now evil, they have to fear doing their job, and stuff like this deincentivizes taking that career path.

400 is initial.
20 is annual.
Specific provisions for small villages cutting them slack.
It's HB 277. You can find the full text here.

Ted James is part of Broome's team of racists. I believe that he serves on at least one of her many committees. He's probably setting himself up to run for mayor in the future.
On a related note, I heard that former mayor Kip Holden recently received an award from the BRPD. Apparently, in his speech, he was openly critical of Broome's anti-law enforcement approach. I'd love to see him run against Broome in 2020. He'd sweep her sorry arse out of office.
