I have no problem with officers being required for training each year.

400 is a bit excessive, should be no longer than two weeks

It just hit me. This also helps also those african american studies majors get jobs doing the training.

Brilliant legislation.

House Bill 277 would require all peace officers to annually complete a minimum of 400 hours of basic core curriculum training and a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training to remain accredited. It specifically requires training in de-escalation, bias policing recognition, handling mentally ill persons, and crisis intervention.

I am not sure how anyone would have a problem with this for any police force of a city But the 400 is a bit much. That's equivalent of 10 work weeks. I think if it's annually 30 to 40 would be sufficient

Seriously how does this clear the senate? How did these senators who are supposed to represent their constituents think that 10 weeks of training (which will be paid training, and paid FOR training) is a good idea.

10 weeks on top of other training requirements?

That's beyond absurd

Why not pass a law that convicted felons can't posses firearms.

Oh wait, never mind.

How do they define "in-service" training? 400 hours (!!!) of "core curriculum training" is every year?

Aren't all training hours completed for existing employees in-house considered "in-service" training? What's the difference between the 400 hr "core curriculum" training versus the 20 hour "in service" training?

There's a plan for this. Offer a plan to demand an absurd amount of racial sensitivity training for LEO's knowing it will never pass, watch it get rejected, claim racism, profit.
