400 hours a year of training? That is nothing short of idiotic.

It's not 400 hours per year. That's the initial training. Currently, I think police academies run about 9 weeks, so 10 is not that much more. Very little was changed other than the 20 hours per year inservice that can be done online.

If this passes maybe I can find a job in training as the need for experienced police trainers will be in great need

Sounds like a lot of future police officers are choosing other careers now.

I provided a link.

The comma with the dot on top of it is a semi-colon. It separates independent clauses.

It isn't 10 weeks annually. Thats a typo in the article. It's ten weeks basic training academy time. I know LSP and BRPD already do more than twice that length basic academies as well as at least 40 more hours annually. Frankly if anywhere is doing less than ten weeks already that's just terrible.

POST certification is 400 hours initially. Each subsequent year, a 20 hour inservice (refresher.) The link I provided has the current law along with the approved changes. It faced very little opposition because it didn't change much of anything except add a couple specific topics within the curriculum, none of which are awful.

I am not sure how anyone would have a problem with this for any police force of a city But the 400 is a bit much. That's equivalent of 10 work weeks. I think if it's annually 30 to 40 would be sufficient

Already done, yearly inservice is 40 hours required by POST I believe.

That's much more reasonable but I can see how that is confusing. A better way to write it would be "Proposed law requires all peace officers to successfully complete a minimum of 400 hours of basic core curriculum training. Additionally, proposed law requires all peace officers to successfully complete a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training on an annual basis to maintain P.O.S.T. certification, to be prescribed by the council."

I know police work more hours, but the standard man-hour work year is 2000 hours.

So cops should spend 20% of their time on training? I can't wait until crime soars because police are busy training.

frick yourself right in the pussy, BR.

Are they fricking stupid? 400 hours of training equates to 40 days of training! Who will be working the jobs and guess who foots the bill for the OT to train on days off.
