Did you escape poverty?

Individual poverty, no.
Generational poverty, yes

Whose moral failure is it?

A moral failure to whom... the individual, family, city, country?

I failed the shite out of your mom's morals last night. She gave me money until she was in poverty.

This country doesn't have true large scale poverty like other parts of the world.

Don't we give out free phones to make up for that

Where are the NSFW threads on this dreary Friday?

I truly believe that in a perfect situation, you will have ~33% of the population that is just going to be slackers. They are just going to be raised "shitty". Until we can force people to raise their children to a certain standard, we are never going to get rid of that. Taking resources from the successful doesn't help them get out of that cycle. It just keeps them alive and breeding. Until they are useful in the workforce, they can't be helped.
Then there is the question....what is a livable condition? And what level of "comfort" in our lower class is required to be morally "okay"? Do they have to be at a certain percentage of comfort that the highest class gets to enjoy? Or do they just need food, shelter, and other basic needs?
I have a moral compass that won't let me just watch someone die in the street. But it's not my responsibility to make sure they live as good as I do. That's on them (or their parents).

poverty is relative. in today's US, if you're in poverty you probably still get satelite tv, smartphone, wifi just about everywhere you go, food assistance, housing assistance, daycare assistance, effectively pay no taxes.
I fail to see what poverty has to do with morals.

Moral failure by whom?

I'm not sure you know what you are trying to ask

In the US (aside from those with true mental or physical disabilities) poverty is a result of a lifetime of poor decision making. This isn't India or a third world country were there is almost no chance for many to escape poverty no matter how hard they try.
