Should just write "No" in red ink on the bottom of the mayor's letter and send it back to her just like that.

Who wrote this shite?

"I understand both officers are entitled to due process, including internal and current investigation and subsequent decision."

Wow.

"However, I am concerned that there is a violation of police conduct policies."

I assume she meant to say there "was a violation"?

What is "21st century professional policing"?

Also, I believe "mayor-president", as used in this context, should be capitalized.

Apparently SWB refuses to be one upped by Mitch Landrieu as the worst mayor in Louisiana.

The mayor and police are now openly fighting against each other. I see nothing but bright things in this city's future.

It really is a total embarrassment that letter was written. The good thing is they now have something in writing to frame just how stupid this letter was.
The courts and lawyers will have a field day with this.

"The ultimate decision is yours,...I look forward to your written response within 24 hours."
Dabadie should stamp it DECLINED and mail it back after the holiday!

It is quite transparent, this is the first step in her firing Dabadie. He won't resign, so she needs cause to fire him, she is sending this letter as a setup to that cause

Exactly.

These last 3 "letters" have all been an orchestrared event. The letter from the lawyers to Broome and her response 3 hours later, with both letters being released to the media shortly have they were "delivered" tells me that the lawyers and Broome's staff planned all this out way before yesterday. I'm sure both parties proofed the other's letter before they were "delivered" to make sure they had all their bases covered

I don't think she thought this one through.

He plan is basically to tell him to unlawfully fire an officer then fire him for refusing to do so?

Without due process being played out, the officer can't be successfully fired and could get a civil judgment against the city in addition to reinstatement to the force.

And Dabadie refusing to follow an unlawful order from Broome likely would result in his own reinstatement if she tries to fire him.

No amount of thought would be able to come up with a legal way to get rid of Dabadie. But it looks like it might not matter in the end.

The plan may be to just fire him and then take your chances in court, all the while you have your chosen one in place during all the appeals, policing the city in the way she wants it policed. Maybe they hope Dabadie will not be willing to fight a public fight for his job.

If this is in fact the plan, then it's a plan born out of frustration after they have researched everything and discovered that he can't be terminated without cause.

Maybe they know they will be sued and have money at the ready to pay him a settlement to make him go away. What's $300k to $500k of taxpayer money to get your own police chief.

I figure Dabadie would turn down a settlement and fight in court, demanding an injunction to reinstate him because whatever bozo Broome puts in will do irreparable harm to the policies he is trying to implement.

The fact that they are trying to start with the unlawful dismissal of another officer before getting on him makes it easy to argue that her chosen bozo will wreck the force through chasing off current officers and hiring ones of questionable quality.

The mayor-president and her ilk have already shown that they have prejudged the evidence and that any defense of the police has been prejudiced. It's quite ironic really.
