How many National Seeds made it to Omaha in the last 5 years?  40%

2016: 3 of 8*
2015: 4 of 8*
2014: 2 of 8*
2013: 3 of 8*
2012: 4 of 8*

*national champ was not a national seed

That's right. The last 5 national champs were not National Seeds.

It is better to be hot than host.

UPDATED FOR THE CLUELESS:

From ncaa.com - how do national seeds perform?

I know it'll be hard for you 3 slack-jacked, sloped-forheaded ninnies (ell_13, Broski, Hold That Tiger 10) to get through all the big words in the article, but there are nice pictures for you!:

quote:

Spots held by top eight seeds in modern NCAA tournament history
CWS/ELITE8 -- CHAMPIONSHIP GAME -- CHAMPION

Baseball -- 56.3% -- 58.3% -- 38.9%
Basketball -- 58.0% -- 68.2% -- 75.8%

For as crazy as March is known to be, the top eight teams in basketball tend to perform much better than their baseball counterparts.

This despite the fact that there are no host sites in NCAA basketball.

This would indicate to someone like me (degree in stats) as well as the average layperson that, while hosting can be seen as advantageous, hosting as a precious national seed (ell_13_akaChester bows his knee in quiet reverence) is *not* a factor in ultimate success when compared to the control group.

kind of a pointless stat, there are 8 times as many non national seeds, of course more make it to the CWS....

so of the teams that are not national seeds over that same span 8.6% make it to the CWS

I vote for national seed, 40% is greater than 8.6%

With LSU recent hosting, might not be bad for them to get out of town for a regional.

Stony Brook - LSU only hosted that one because SB won the regional

Parity is so great in the college game now, even if you are not a national seed you still have a great chance of hosting super if the regional you are paired with has an upset.

TBH most of us want a national seed so we can booze it up at Alex Box one more time this season.

Can I be hot and host at the same time? I choose that option.

How many times has LSU made it to Omaha without hosting a super regional in the super regional era?

I'll hang up and listen...

Well, seeing as how LSU has never reached the CWS (since the super regional format was instituted) without hosting a super regional, I'd say it's pretty important for LSU to get a national seed. Unless, of course, you're banking on the national seed LSU would be matched up against losing in the regional.

2004 was a special year in the annals of LSU baseball man. (we hosted but weren't a national seed)

12.5% of the field are national seeds
87.5% of the field are not national seeds

BREAKING NEWS: There are still good teams in that 87.5%!!!!!

While I understand what you're saying clam the only stat that should really matter to you:

LSU 2017 at HOME: 27-7
LSU 2017 at ROAD: 7-8

This is why national seeds matter.

It's not because a certain amount of non national seeds make it; the reason is LSU is better at home.

While we don't have to be a national seed to host supers, let's not leave that up to chance if at all possible.

Anybody saying a nat seed isn't important needs to be shot.

Like seriously, you deserve to be shot in the foot just so you know not think such stupid things ever again.

I have been saying this in a little different way in the other thread. Hopefully traveling will require the team to focus more because whatever PM has been doing hasn't worked at home.

Where did I say being a national seed wasn't important?

It is obvious, however, that being a national seed is far from critical. There is a difference.

I'm of the opinion, btw, that LSU has burned a lot of mental energy in recent years making a late charge to get a national seed, only to then look less than sharp in the NCAAT. I'd rather this team stay loose and peak than put all their mental faculties into that precious national seed.

As for the guy who wants to booze it up one last time, OK. I agree. I want LSU to get a national seed. Just trying to point out how silly it is to think that will make or break LSU's chances.
