I've had so many fraud charges on my Chase card, I will never use them again.

Fraud can happen at any bank. One thing big banks are very good at is handling fraud for their customers.

Fraudulent transactions at a small bank can be a long nightmare process

Who the hell still uses a debit card for everyday purchases?

Lots of people. The only really good reason for not doing so is missing out on rewards.

We had our account hacked this weekend as well. I don't even know how they caught it since all the charges were within an hour of our home (Houston metro area). Easily could have been us. But I guess they caught on to the randomness. Half of them were credited before we even knew. The others were still processing. It's not difficult for the bank to determine when it's fraud.

Sadly, no one's doing shite about a few $50 purchases. Seems if they paid their energy bill it would be an easy bust but nah..

yes they will. If he's still in possession of the card then it's likely the card number was obtained at a gas pump or something. It's also highly likely that this person either bought the fake card number or has a bunch of other cards. If it's the former, the police will be very interested in finding the origin. If it's the latter, the charges most likely total enough for it to be a felony. How stupid can someone be to pay a bill with a stolen credit card?

Make a police report. BRPD will put it's best detectives on the case and you'll get justice.

this is how a lot of it happens. skimming devices are all over the gas station pumps nowadays, and i can guarantee you an attendant doesn't give a crap to check.

You were very very very lucky to get purchases reimbursed on a debit card.

Why?
Someone stole my number and booked a room at the Bellagio and a flight on Korean Air. Bank reimbursed my money by the next day.

Nothing else for you to do. I think it is up to Chase at this point. Once they give you your money back, technically Chase becomes the "victim." I doubt they will go after the guy over a couple of hundred bucks; much easier for them to write it off.

If you know who did it, and decide to press charges, the police will pursue it.

Don't use debit cards for every day purchases and sure as hell don't shop online with it. I only use my debit card for occasional ATM withdrawals. It's better to have your credit card compromised than bank account funds tied to your debit card. Also you are missing out on cash back/miles from cc rewards.

Not to mention your credit cards are insured, debit cards typically are not. I've been hit a few times and only use my credit card for purchases and my debit card only on indoor ATM machines now.

I've had Bank of America overturn fraudulent charges on an ATM card once which were clearly fraud as there were charges showing up in multiple countries at the same time.

Most banks put a time limit on how long you have to report the fraud on a debit card.
