debit card fraud is just a normal part of banking these days; it would have to be something abnormal for the bank NOT to refund.

Nothing will happen to the person because of the amount. Whoever it is knows well enough to not take large sums. Unfortunately, people don't care enough nowadays. Specifically, the cops won't do anything, so the CC company doesn't bother pursuing it.

My card # was stolen once. I lived in Bangkok at the time. It wasn't too hard to justify to my bank that it wasn't me spending $3000 on furniture in Tokyo around lunchtime when I had used the ATM in Bangkok that morning.

I had an $800 debit card charge to Paypal hit my account. I found it the next day and called the bank. They immediately credited my account back while they investigate.

In fact, I'm a racist white nationalist simply because I put a stop to those poor oppressed people who are just trying to better their lives. The money I earn is a symptom of systematic racism and is basically stealing from these descendants of slaves so it's only fair that they rise up and take back what is theirs.

Don't use debit cards for every day purchases and sure as hell don't shop online with it. I only use my debit card for occasional ATM withdrawals. It's better to have your credit card compromised than bank account funds tied to your debit card. Also you are missing out on cash back/miles from cc rewards.

You can try getting the police involved. However, they might not look into it too much since you were reimbursed and the money taken wasn't devastating.

Mastercard always catches shite before I even notice. They put a hold on my card and then call me.
Last time was me buying McDonald's in BR, while someone was trying to buy a TV in Charlotte. They froze the card and called me right after I was done eating

Banks will reimburse you for fraudulent activity whether it was a credit or debit card, or direct EFT from your account.
The only problem with fraud on debit card vs fraud on credit card is that the debit card fraud takes money directly from your checking account and it may take some time for the fraudulent charges to be reversed. Less hassle for you while waiting for a bank to reverse the charges on a credit account compared to if the thieves were able to empty your checking account.

I don't know why in these days you wouldn't just use a credit card and pay it off each month. No reason not to.

A deputy sheriff basically told me the same thing when my house was broken into. He said about the best way the thieves get caught is if they happen to get stopped for some traffic violation and a tv, computer, etc. is seen in the car. Then the cops go to asking questions.

I had my debit card number stolen when I was right out of college. It was a pain in the arse to get some of the money back. I only use my credit card now. It just makes too much sense. They have better fraud protection and the cash back and points offered make it a no-brainer.
