The reason you--and countless others--never had to deploy is because you--and countless others--have always been ready to.
Peace through strength is more than a bumper sticker.
Trust me, you've done your part.

What's wrong with being in the rear, with the gear?
TigerFanInSouthland,
I want you to go see Captain January. He's gone need all the help he can get.

But seriously the only thing you're missing out on being reserves is shite barracks, shitty towns, and pointless deployments
Posted on 5/14/17 at 11:23 pm to TigerFanInSouthland
That's just how it happens sometimes, you can't change the machine the machine changes you
I deployed once to Afghanistan in my 4 years active, once I switched to the reserves I received an offer in the first week to mobilize. Even received an email to go for jsoc
I don't think any less of you, it's not like you're an e7 with 22 years active duty, then I'd be a little suspicious.

If you haven't deployed you're just another weekend warrior, sorry.

Honestly if it eats you up this bad,
You can either be a good marine and go through your coc
Or you can say frick all that and go straight to your battalion commander maybe and say sir, I need a fricking a deployment or retention or somebody. Do what you gotta do man

As an old Marine, It depends on you. Are you working a gas station or in school?

but I also want to know, at least in some way, what Marines have gone through before me at places like Belleau Wood or Okinawa or Chosin or Khe Sahn or Fallujah.

You are better off having never seen a battlefield.
ETA: And to piggyback off what others have said, it's not like you're some senior NCO who's been dodging deployments his whole career.
If you have the itch that bad, get up off your arse and join MARSOC or something. Get through that pipeline (and stay in) and then you'll definitely see something hairy eventually.

You've done what your country has asked of you, congratulations

I'll tell you what my dad told me when I found out I couldn't join the military. I have epilepsy. None of the branches would take me.
He told me that we all serve our country in some way if we want to. We serve by being good men, first, to the people around us, by holding up society, by keeping our families strong. We volunteer, we give our time and effort and resources whenever we can to whoever we can. And we pass that on to the next generation. Maybe someone you influence will be someone who serves as well.
It's not so much about the perceived "level" of service that determines your value to your country. You may never know exactly what your country needs from you. Maybe your country doesn't need you to kill or to die for it. Maybe it has another purpose for you.

I did 18 1/2 years on active duty in the Army before I deployed to Afghanistan, it happens.
You can't control deployments

I know the feeling myself. Was 11b/11m in the army and never deployed. You kind of feel like you missed out now that I am 43yo. my son is now in the middle East. Sure wish it was me and not him.

I know somewhat how you feel. I was 0311, six year reservist. They offered me an "early out" when I finished training at Pendleton. It was 13 months active duty, straight over to Nam. I wanted to go to college so I did the 5.5 years active reserve duty.
It was a different time and different war but I would go active if I had it to do over. The guilt I live with is hard to explain. I feel like I abandoned my fellow Marines.
I don't feel that I wasted my time, but I feel I could have done more.
Semper Fi.

Serious question:
Why would you want to deploy?
Do you feel like we are justified being in the ME?
Why would you want to kill someone who poses no threat to your country?

I served in two USN TAR (Training Active Reserve) squadrons. We never deployed for more than ten days for any reason.
I never stepped foot on a ship during my time in the Navy.
I regret nothing.
