At what point does an acquaintance become a friend?

You'll hear people say, "They've never met a stranger, and if you met them once, they were a friend for life."
I feel like you have to at least have the person's number and/or have met ~5 times to consider them a friend. Can you tell immediately if someone could potentially be a friend?

When he takes home the fat friend so you can score the 7.

This...and when you actually plan to hangout with the person, not just bumping into each other at a place you both frequent or see them only because they're a friend of a friend.

Everyone is an acquaintance until they help you move a dead body, then they are a true friend.

A friend will bail you out of jail.
A real friend will be in jail with you.

Just you and the person? With a group? I've met one of my really good friends because we went to the same bar every weekend. It started out as a friend of a friend and now we're closer than the friend I met him through.

When I trust them 100%; currently there are 3 people in the world that I trust 100% and none are friends or acquaintances.

For me, after the first time I drink woth them. I am normally quiet and to myself, but I'm more social when i drink.

I don't need to trust someone 100% to be a friend. If I can call a person up to get a beer and they answer and don't ask who it is, that's a pretty good sign.

Probably after you each call/text each other and hang out one on one a couple times.

An acquaintance is my friend's friend. We hang out in a group. We know limited information about each other.

We've hung out without other friends around. They've eaten a meal at my house. I know the name of their kids and a lot about their family, work, etc.
