Am I drunk or am I being reasonable in saying that the LSU runner from third could have potentially been thrown out at home if the left fielder would have actually tried to make a play. The runner had to check the catch and was likely 10ft from the base when he decided to throw it towards the stands.
Btw - I'm drunk regardless

That team has pretty much quit on Holbrook.
He'll be fired either this year or next.

Luke Johnson tweeted the replay. The guy could have thrown home. Watson was heading back to third to tag. He gave zero fricks.

He was running toward the foul line to field it. His momentum was still pulling him that way when he got to the ball. He had no chance.

Better question is why the hell do you give a guy who's 4-4 anything close to a hittable pitch when you have an open base with 1 out and the GW run 90 feet away.
Psyched we won but I was totally expecting the "unintentional" intentional there

Because Deichmann is on deck.

It was a low effort, clueless play by the left fielder. The hit was in relatively shallow left field. Watson had gone back to tag up. I think the fielder did not know that. Obviously had he caught the ball in the air he would have tried to stop the winning run at the plate.
Would Watson have beat the throw? Probably, but the fielder caught it clean on a short hop and who is to say. Watson would not have been the first runner in the world to stumble running home. You don't quit until the game is over.
To me it was like not running out a pop up in the infield. If there is a 1 percent chance to make the play, you try. What's the downside of throwing home? I think he did not know Watson had tagged.

You're not crazy. His chance of throwing him out were pretty slim, but he did have a chance.

He had a very decent chance. Watson was actually running towards third. So he was going to have to change directions

So what you are saying is that LSU didn't actually win; USCe gave the game to LSU?
You have to ask,"Why today?"

I was wondering more about all the players running on the field before he touched home.

It was worth a throw for sure. Anything could happen. What harm could it have done?
Posted on 5/7/17 at 7:51 pm to TT
It was a pretty bad play to not even make an attempt. A perfect throw would probably have gotten him

Watson tagging was very poor coaching. Cain couldn't tell it was too shallow to tag??
Posted on 5/7/17 at 7:58 pm to Broski
I don't see that at all. They continued to scratch away when they could've folded early.

What? At third less than 2 outs ball hit in the air you go back to the bag. Do you really think the third base coach has time to tell him what to do in that situation in the 3 seconds it takes from ball hitting bat to ball hitting ground? Plays like that are discussed before the pitch. Watson did the right thing and he scored. You guys get ridiculous when it comes to wanting to blame the coaches.
