DAT 4/5: HOU 5- SEA 3 | Springer walks it off!!!

Another fun one last night. Bats were quiet but Marwin and McCann did just enough. LMJ did everything we could ask for and the 7-8-9 of Harris-Gregerson-Giles shut it down.
With Oakland and LA splitting their first 2, YFPHA are alone atop the AL West. Lets just go ahead and lead wire to wire, agree? Charlie Morton gets the ball tonight for the 'Stros. If he's fully healthy this year and the new found velocity stays, he could be the steal of the offseason. James Paxton, hard throwing lefty, will pitch for the Mariners. He was 1-2 with a 5.82 ERA in 3 starts against Houston last season.

Jake is starting, radio guys mentioned it last night. Hinch wanted to get all of the position players some time in the first series.

They already announced jake would be starting on the broadcast last night. I wonder if jake is that much better at cf to make eveyone switch when he plays. Seems it would be much easier when he is a defensive repacement or starting to just put him in LF instead of having to move spring and jj in late innings or spring in starts

Or put him in rf on days he starts. Just seems it would be easier to move on guy around instead of having to move every guy around.

I think he is but I'm a massive homer
Dude saved a ridiculous amount of runs in center last year

He very well might be.
On a side note, not trying to make fun of a guys speech issues, but what's the deal with Giles? Something sounds weird when he talks but I can't figure out what.

In regards to pitch velocities:
Apparently MLB was fully integrated Statcast as the governing instrument for measuring distance, velocity, etc. in MLB ballparks, as opposed to pitchF/x
Statcast measures the highest velocity on the arc of the pitch, which is usually right out of the pitchers' hand, PitchF/x measured it at a specific point along the path, apparently 55 ft or so, Through 2 full days of games the average fastball velocity is up almost a full MPH.
TLDR; pitcher velocity increases may not be all that real, just measured differently.

Playing Marisnick in LF basically nullifies the entire reason he is on the roster

Good start boys. Can't wait to watch Morton deal tonight

Morton looked good in the spring. Our lineup is looking really boom or bust right now we have 5 runs on 4 home runs. Id like to see us manufacture runs, steal some bases, do the small things.

I think he is that much better. It's not really an issue with George already very familiar with right, and Reddick easily able to play left.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but LMCJ's glove and shoes last night were a tribute to his friend Jose Fernandez.

So what's the official story about the outfield areas? I saw in fbd you had a beer out there.

agreed. Springer makes the flashy plays, but I think Marisnick gives him a run at being our best defensive outfielder.
I'd like to see our bats wake up more. We cant depend on solo shots every game . a quick look at the team stats and I'm seeing a .208 team batting average. Let's match our pitching and start having some quality AB's.
Geaux Stros

Paxton is on the verge of becoming a really good pitcher. I hope he has a bad start tonight, but I think he will have a great year.

On the positive side, the strikeouts by the Astros lineup is down in the first two games.

Had a couple out there before making our way behind the net. It's a great setup with beer bars up there. Reminds me of Arlington a little bit. We were also put on the flex cam out there

I'm gonna try to hit the party deck either this weekend or the Angels series. It looks great
