well

A) i've never gone to LA23 and been turned away due to lack of food.

B) LA23 didn't build this enormous new space on the back of a guy who has a history of trouble staying in business and pissing people off

c) you're Rob so you're going to defend him regardless.

They are selling BBQ out of a trailer in Belle Chase. Low overhead and cost of living is low. They probably are content turning a small profit and going home CCBBQ seems like a big investment whose main goal was probably to make some $$$$ first and foremost. Having real deal fresh Q is great but people still turn out in droves to eat reheated brisket (Blue Oak, Frey). Im sure the investors want to sell food and drink all day

Everyone wants to be like Aaron Franklin. What they don't want to look at is the 5 (or more since I saw them) ginormous smokers he has going full of meat. Dude is selling a lot of meat each day and he has a few pitmasters manning all that work. He also started out buying a used Mueller trailer/smoker and expanding slowly to what he is now.

LA23 is a good example of going the real Aaron Franklin way. Started out in a small trailer and expanding as the business allows. Rob's old place looks nice, does the amount of meat he can put out each day match the rent?

Burgau cited disagreements about the operation of the kitchen as the reason for the split.

He noted, for example, that Central City BBQ under Bechtold would often run out of meat in mid-afternoon before the dinner crowd arrived. "I know it's hard coming from a mom-and-pop (restaurant)," Burgau said. "But at the end of the day, we have to make money to survive."

This is what a lot of us have been saying since they opened. Very confusing how they could be satisfied with closing before dinner when you make the most from alcohol sales.

If this was a shack and low operating cost I could see them doing whatever they wanted but this was a huge investment for them.

I also thought CR was one of the owners so this is new news for me.

It's also been inexcusable for CCBBQ to not have a green/veggie side on the menu every single day. It's as if they have zero interest in women customers.

I thought the point of more smokers was so Rob wouldn't run out of food as he did at his other place. Will be interesting to see how the following and the food is affected by his departure.

I have to hope to get a fare that needs to go to Belle Chasse during the week to even have a chance to eat there.

Not very reasonable hours for a working man who does most of their business in the city. And I'm not knocking LA23, I'm knocking the hypocrisy of some people here.

I'd venture to say most people here have never been to 23. Love their chicken, brisket and sausage.

Rob wasn't running a BBQ trailer or shack like LA23. That's a damn nice location stocked with alcohol to sit empty all night. It's obvious the posters who thought that here were right, since that is why he was kicked to the curb.

yeah that is the other thing, why could they not stage the meat, half at midnight the other half started in the morning. Ton of smokers out there from what I saw from pictures of the place.

I'm only a consumer so maybe that does not work with in the BBQ restaurant industry, who knows.

I wonder if they ever said, "hey baw, smoke more meat."

Seems like they could have fixed the issue with running out of the best Q in America. Why would they not want to sell more meat?

The criticism started when he was in a small location brah. Just pointing out the facts.

sure - and even the BEST of the BEST will get those comments from some segment of the population.

but when you throw in a full restaurant with extended bar and such.... well, you have to admit that rarely having meat at dinner is odd for the concept that they were going for.

I used to stop at LA23 a lot for lunch when I was working in the area. This was 2 or 3 years ago and I don't recall them ever running out at lunch and remember a few times stopping to pick up for dinner sometimes too.

I used to enjoy getting cracklins and boiled peanuts too from the little produce stand next door too

I agree. With an event space like that you need food. But I also respect the fact he doesn't want to serve reheated BBQ. I was obviously served some crap the other day.
