LA Concealed Carry Process = Garbage
Posted on 3/15/17 at 1:41 pm

Submitted my application a year ago this week. Fingerprints sent in on cards the same week.
Application approved and fees paid in November.
No updates by December. Ask for update, "oh just our backlog. You will get an email when the permit is mailed."
February "yep, still backlog"
March 1 "background check taking longer because your fingerprint cards were rejected." No info on what I need to do, of course.
March 15 "we sent you a request for new prints in January."
Of course, I never received anything. Not via their email system or regular mail.
This process is a total joke and I'm starting to regret going through the trouble in the first place. If someone had told me that you MUST take a road trip to BR to do fingerprints there, I would have done so.
End rant.
Update: traveled to BR to do prints on 3/20/17.
Update: permit approved 3/25/17

You must take a road trip to Br and send in application online. Approval in less than 2 weeks for me

I agree it's a bit ridiculous that this is required to exercise a constitutional right. I make sure all my students know the most expedient way of submitting though.

Look, I get that this is the only way to go. In hindsight, I guess I should have found one of my very few weekdays off of work to drive there during business hours and wait in line. I did it for the bar exam, so what's one more time?
I'm criticizing the process. If this is how they process people that don't show up there, they should stop offering the cards as an option. I'm criticizing the people handling inquiries who would rather just send a three word "backlog" email than actually look into the reason for a year long delay.
I feel like I'm in effing Chicago or NYC trying to exercise a legal right.

Did the online /mail in route. Took 8 months.

Took me like 9 months and a TD thread to get mine

Why LSP won't accept electronic fingerprints from another LEO dept is beyond me. They'll accept fingerprint cards but not electronic prints. It's the definition of insanity.

Renewed 1.5 months ago, so no new fingerprints required. Submitted online and still haven't gotten the reply email with payment information.

I took my course in 8/28/16, sent the prints via Certified mail on September 6th, and have been waiting ever since. No emails, no phone calls. Nothing. Can I still go to LSP Baton Rouge to expedite the process?

That's about where I am now. I emailed them 3 times in the last two months and I just got a response to my 3rd email yesterday saying "I have just approved your permit."
Ok great, it's approved, now how long before I get it in the mail? A week? A month? A few months? I don't feel like emailing them again. I feel like I'm dealing with fast food workers here.

They wouldn't accept EBRSO jail fingerprints either

Pretty good deal ($125 for a 5-year permit averages out to $.07 per day). Even if you add in the cost of the class (I charge $85), it's still less than $.12 per day. (How much is a pack of cigarettes a day -- $5.50 ??)
Avoiding background checks and getting to carry a loaded pistol in over 30 other states -- well worth it to me. I'm sure others have a different opinion (and I don't really care.

I learned the proper way to get a CC (online + go to main office) after I had already done it the slow way.
I emailed to check on the status of my permit today and found out that it was approved on December 20th and sent to me in the mail. I never got it.
I am in the process of verifying that they sent it to the right address. I assume I will have to apply for a replacement permit and go through the procedure of getting a notarized letter saying I never received it.
